1) MODAL ANALYSIS OVER AN AIRCRAFT WING

DURING CRUISE SPEED

ABSTRACT

In our project we are going to analyze the stress distribution over a

modern passenger aircraft due to vibration that had been induced during cruise
flight. We had taken a subsonic passenger aircraft as a reference flight and
analyzed using FEA optimization tool (ANSYS WORKBENCH). Due to high
speed the maximum lift force will be produced over the wing surface. Hence
due to this lift force and G-Forces the aircraft wing will starts to vibrate this will
reduce the stability of an aircraft. The boundary conditions are taken from the
passenger aircraft survey reports including maximum lift force distribution over
the wing and the G-Forces is calculated. In this project we had taken the
maximum load condition because while optimizing an aircraft extreme load
condition will be considered.

By this analysis we can able to find the natural frequency of an aircraft

wing design and from this result we can able to optimize the wing support
structures of an aircraft. The main advantages of this project are we can increase
the aircraft stability during cruise and also we can increase the life of an aircraft
wing and its support structures.

2. MODELING AND ANALYSIS OF A BIO MEDICAL KNEE JOINT

IMPLANT
ABSTRACT

Knee joint consists of different components, i.e. femur, tibia, patella and
menisci which make it a complex structure, undergoing different critical loads
in human body performing motions and physical activities. The present study
focuses on the analysis of stress magnitude on knee joint and knee implant
when these are introduced with different loads acting upon it with varying
angles of inclination. 3-D model of the knee joint and knee implant were
designed using 3-D modeling software i.e. CATIA. These models were
imported to ANSYS to get the specific results of stress magnitude using finite
element analysis. This study has revealed that with a load range of 540N to 790
N and change in angle from 10° to 90°,. Hence the design of implant must give
emphasis on different types of material depending upon the amount of stress
experienced at different location. Overall, the study provides a guideline for
fabrication of prosthetic implant in the line of intimation with reduced number
of experiments so that implants with better stress management and enhanced
load bearing capacity can be designed.
3 . STRESS ANALYSIS OF A BIO MEDICAL ANKLE JOINT
IMPLANT
ABSTRACT
Total ankle replacement is a procedure in which an injured ankle joint is
replaced with a plastic and metal joint. Presently SS316L, Co-Cr-Mo
Alloys, Ti-6Al-4V are used as implant material in ankle replacement
surgery. The materials SS316L,Co-Cr-Mo alloys are heavier in density
which fails within prescribed period and costly. Ti-based alloys are
finding ever-increasing applications in biomaterials due to their excellent
mechanical, physical and biological performance. Nowdays, low modulus
β-type Ti-based alloys are still being developed. The objective of this
study is better biomaterial for implants. In this project we consider a three-
dimensional finite element method (FEM) model of the implant will be
developed for the study. The model developed in CATIA V5 software.
The analysis of the FEM model using ANSYS software and found stress
concentrations in the implant. To obtain the results by considering the
different loads exerted by human body weight on ankle joint implants
while walking conditon. From the results of analysis on implant we find
Von-Mises Stress and Displacement and Natural frequencies

4.DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF COMPOSITE DRIVE SHAFT FOR

AN AUTOMOBILE
ABSTRACT
Substituting composite structures for conventional metallic structures has
many advantages because of higher specific stiffness and strength of
composite materials. Advanced composite materials seem ideally suited for
long, power driver shaft applications. Their elastic properties can be tailored
to increase the torque and the rotational speed at which they operate. The
drive shafts are used in automotive, aircraft and aerospace applications for
power transmission. This work deals with the replacement of conventional
two-piece steel drive shafts with a single-piece E-Glass/ Epoxy, High
Strength Carbon/Epoxy composite drive shaft for an automotive application.
The design parameters were optimized for E-Glass/ Epoxy, High Strength
Carbon/Epoxy composite drive shafts of an automobile using FEA. The
design parameters such as thickness optimized with the objective of
minimizing the weight of composite drive shafts which is subjected to the
constraints such as torque transmission, torsional buckling capacities and
fundamental lateral natural frequency. The weight savings of the E-Glass/
Epoxy, High Strength Carbon/Epoxy shaft were 48.36 %, 86.90 % of the
steel shaft respectively.
The torque transmission capacity of the composite drive shafts have been
calculated by neglecting and considering the effect of centrifugal forces and
it was observed that centrifugal forces will reduce the torque transmission
capacity of the shaft. The variation of the stress along the thickness of the
Steel,E-Glass/ Epoxy, High Strength Carbon/Epoxy composite drive shafts.
It is observed that all stresses are within in the allowable limit. Static, Modal
and Buckling analysis are carried out on the finite element Analysis of the
composite drive shaft .
