Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

 Representation: This activity provides visual text and pictures for students to read and visualize. This
activity can also vary the timing of each question, allowing for the proper time for students to answer
each question based off the question’s difficulty level.
 Engagement: This activity can be edited to include sentence starters, sentence strips, etc.
 Expression: This activity has the option of designing questions so that they communicate to real
audiences and are purposeful. Each question can also be changed to differentiate the degree of
difficulty or complexity within which core activities can be completed.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
 Prior to this SRT activity, students would have engaged in a content lesson on productive resources.
 The students will complete a worksheet about productive vs. non-productive resources.
 The students will engage in a discussion about what they have learned, and the teacher will ask
students to volunteer to tell me a type of productive resource.
 The students will then put all their notes away and take out their devices for the Kahoot game.
 I will introduce the SRT activity by telling the students we will be completing an activity to see who
understand the difference between productive and non-productive resources.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate common

misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☒ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

 The students will be participating in a Kahoot gameplay. The students will be answering questions
that pertain to productive resources. There is a mixture of multiple-choice and true/false questions
throughout the Kahoot.
 The teacher will be leading the activity. I will be reading the questions and answers aloud and guiding
the students through the Kahoot. The teacher will also be monitoring student responses throughout
the activity.
 The materials needed for this activity are any type of technological device (laptop, iPad, phone,
tablet, etc.). The teacher materials needed are the Kahoot lesson and an interactive whiteboard
device.
 This activity will last around 15-20 minutes.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☒ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?

 After the Kahoot activity, the teacher will have a brief class discussion about productive vs. non-
productive resources and address any remaining misconceptions or confusions. The students will then
be able to use a printed copy of the questions as a study guide for any upcoming summative
assessments.
 The teacher will download the student data from the Kahoot activity to identify any areas that still
need to be addressed, and to see which students need additional help with the content.

How will the data be used?

This activity can be used as a formative assessment to gauge how the students are with their understanding
of the content. This activity can also be used for teacher to see which students still need additional help
understanding the content, and which areas the teacher might still need to keep teaching to the class. The
information gathered from this activity will not be gathered for a grade but will be used to determine what
the teacher needs to spend more time teaching, and which students are still struggling to grasp the concept.
The data collected will be shared anonymously with the whole class, in order to give the students an idea of
how the whole class is with their understanding of a specific topic. The information gathered can also be used
to differentiate instruction, by working in groups with those students who may have struggled with this

assignment more than others. This allows for teacher intervention and scaffolding to help students develop
their knowledge and understanding about a given topic.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
This assignment will be a good practice/review quiz for students during the lesson. I hope to gain an insight on
how the students are performing, and what type of questions my students struggle the most with. This w ill
help me determine what needs to be retaught to my students. This will also help me see which students
struggle the most and may need additional help with this topic. I hope this assignment will help students
review the content for this lesson and will give students an idea of what they might still need help with. I also
hope that this assignment will spark conversation about different types of productive resources.
Reflective Practice:
After designing this lesson idea, I feel that the activity that I created could impact student learning by giving
me data to see if my teaching methods are successful with my students, or if I need to try and teach this
content in a different way to meet the needs of my students. This activity will also help me identify and
address any misconceptions that might be shown during the activity. I could further extend this activity by
having the students create a quizlet or use this as a study guide for any upcoming tests, as well as creating an
online poll to see how everyone liked participating in this activity.
