Why I chose this programme for my internship?
I always wanted to open my own business and be an entrepreneur, so thatswhy, I chose Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) for my internship as this programme would help me to know more about how entrepreneur works. This programme would also help me to know more about the world of entrepreneur and it surely did. It taught me about different aspects of being an entrepreneur. There were many sessions which included topics such as :- how one becomes an entrepreneur, what difficulties they face, how government support them, how banks play an important role in their business, how they manage their finance, accounts, personnel and many more aspects of business were discussed.
TOPICS DISCUSSED AND THEIR LEARNINGS:-
On the very first day, we had a session on ‘Introduction to CED and Programme’ in which we were given insight of how this programme works and what are its main objectives. This programme was basically started to develop to create entrepreneurial culture in academic institutions to foster growth of innovation and entrepreneurship skills among students. The programme was started to inspire and motivate students not just to think but also to act on their dreams and how to act was taught in this programme. This programme was also started in colleges because at this level only students decide what they are going to opt for their career so this programme was like an opportunity for us to know more about the world of entrepreneurs and how government supports them. Then, we had a session on ‘What is Entrepreneurship’ by ‘Dr. D V Bhatt’ from whom I learn’t what all skill sets and capabilities I need to possess to be an entrepreneur. I even, learnt that just having an idea doesn’t make you an entrepreneur there are so many other aspects also which you have to work upon to be a successful entrepreneur. I also, got to know that entrepreneur is not just a single person but it’s a whole entity which has to act upon every activity. The major learning I got from this session was that building a product or a service isn’t even the hardest part. But, making it work, getting people to just like the product and competing with other competitors at the same time is the hardest. Then, we had a session on ‘Important Aspects of Business Selection’ by ‘Dr. CV Ramana’ who had a very practical approach in his session. He made us do certain activities individually as well as in groups. The activities were very interesting and engaging in which we have to come up with certain new ideas of innovation of a product or a service. I really enjoyed in his session as, I got so many new ideas which I think I can work upon it and convert it into a product in near future. He even gave us some insights related to how can we innovate the existing product or service and bring that into the market. I even learn’t that every unique idea cannot be convert into product as there are so many parameters which we have to take into consideration before converting the idea. We have to think logically, strategically and effectively every aspect of the environment which can influence the market share of the product. Then, we had a session on ‘role of bank’ by ‘Mr. Rashik Jethwa’ from Bank of Baroda. This session taught me how banks help the new entrepreneur with financial assistance. It even taught me how banks play an important role in setting up a business. I even got aware of so many types of schemes which banks had, to support the new entrepreneurs in their business. I got to know how commercial and specialized banks play an important role in the growth and development of entrepreneurship. Apart from providing financial assistance, banks also give valuable inputs to support and promote the firms. The information presented by the lecturer was so informative and filtered that we don’t have to now go through all the schemes provided by banks, if in near future I will start my own business. I also got to learn how entrepreneurs who are at the initial stage of issuing funds with no collateral or no financial background can also apply for loans which are supported by various schemes of banks. Then, we had a session on ‘experience sharing of an entrepreneur’ by ‘Mr. Hardik Desai, CEO, Melzo’, who told us about his enterprise and what all difficulties their team faced while launching the product. His session was very motivating and inspiring. He not only talked about positive things they faced but also mentioned all their failures too. He told how people were refusing to invest in their product and after some point of time even their half of the team backed out. Still, they went with their product and now are successfully establishing their firm. They are even doubling their profits every year. It taught me to face the problems with utmost strength and have confidence in yourself. I even learn’t that the people who are supporting you initially can also back out in the middle, so having faith in yourself is what you need at that time. I also got aware about the fact that we should have numerous other plans which we can take at the time of risk or when the other plan didn’t work out as it should be. His session was like a reality check of how entrepreneurs function. Then, we had a session on ‘Role of DIC’ by ‘Ms. Roya Motwani ,Head of DIC, Surat who explained us about the functions and objectives of DIC (District Industries Centers). From this session, I learn’t that this centers provide full support and assistance to the new entrepreneurs who are going to start their own businesses. This center was basically started by government to support small scale businesses that are unable to compete with large scale businesses. They even help in promotion of small scale industries in rural areas. The lecturer also informed us about various schemes introduced by this centers for the sake of development and growth of small businesses have introduced various schemes. The lecturer also mentioned about various businesses who have registered in this centers and how this centers helped them in their businesses. Overall, this session was very informative and helpful for me. Then, we had a session on ‘Achievement Motivation Training’ by ‘Ms. Asha Dave’ who explained us how achievement motivation is an essential part of any business. She helped us in conceptualizing what achievement motivation really meant. She made us do certain activities. Firstly, we filled a form which helped me in introspecting myself and got to know certain skills of mine which I wasn’t aware of. Then, she made us do creative activity in which we had to make boats and we had to only decide the price, quantity everything of the product. We even calculated breakeven point, losses and profits for the same. It was very knowledgeable and fun session at the same time. It helped me to know more about myself and also about the things on which I should work upon. Then we had session on ‘Marketing Report’ by ‘Ms. Mayanka Chhonker’ in which we had to make groups and launch our new product in the market. We had to make a questionnaire, and to a public survey before launching the product or service. It was a really fun session in which I learnt how other people also think about the market. We discussed so many ideas during this session. Everyone gave such a unique idea and then we discussed on each idea’s pros and cons. Only, then we chose the best idea and made the questionnaire. It really helped me to think out of the box and many creative ideas came in my mind. I also learn’t how market survey is so much important before launching of any product or service. A proper questionnaire can help the company to get all relevant information about what people need and what not. Then our questionnaire was examined by seniors and they cross questioned us about the same. I got to learn how people can look the same product so differently and have so much contrasting perspective. Then, we had a session on ‘Marketing Management and Accounting Management’ by ‘Dr. Pritesh Shukla’ which was the one of the best session. He showed us so many advertising videos, which were so amazing and helpful. I learnt that, nowadays, marketing can break or make the products. He even showed some award winning advertisements which we couldn’t understand while watching for the first time. Afterwards, he explained us the real meaning of it. The session was very interactive as well as knowledgeable at the same time. I got a totally new perspective about the world of marketing. I also learnt that how social media acts like a game changer for marketing. I also learnt the difference between the techniques of new and old marketing. Modern marketing has evolved a lot and now companies had to spend a huge amount of the products or services. Then, we had session on ‘Finance Management’ by ‘Dr. Dhaarna singh rathore’ which taught us about important aspects of how finances should be handled. I learnt that finance is like a lifeblood for any business. We need to maintain adequate amount of finance for the smooth functioning of business. The effective management of finance is very important for business to meet it’s goals. We even can’t neglect the importance of finance at any time and at any situation. She told us how one can acquire funds from investors and how to issue shares. I also learnt that investors and shareholders are the most important people in the business after customers. I also learnt that proper use and allocation of funds can lead to improve the operational efficiency and profitability of any business. When the finance manager uses the funds properly, they can reduce the cost of capital and can even increase the value of business. So, finance management is one of the most important aspect for any business. Before that, I used to thought that how much salary you are getting is the only factor an employer sees. It was a really interactive session and enlightening session. I also learn’t that the better a company treats its employees, the better efficiency it will gets from them. To increase the productivity of employees organization can take various steps to do it whether awarding them with bonuses or giving awards or providing work freedom. All theses things now matter more to the employees along with their salaries. Then, we had a session on ‘Personal Management’ by ‘Dr. Rajbir Saini, Vice President-HR, Reliance Industries’, who gave us a very valuable and interesting lecture. He was himself a very experienced person who shared his view points and perspective about new entrepreneurs. He talked about what skills they lack and how can on improve it. It was too a very informative, interactive and knowledgeable session for us. Then, we had session ‘Ethics and Value of Gandhian Philosphy in entrepreneurship’ by ‘Dr. Dilip Shah’, who talked about certain ethics and values of Gandhiji and how one can inculcate them in their business. He even gave us the book written by him in which he has mentioned all the philosophies of Gandhiji and even explained them. This shows how a true follower he is of Mahatma Gandhi. Then at the last day we went to visit ‘Adani Port’ which was a truly an amazing experience. I learnt so much about it which I previously didn’t know. The port is India’s largest private multi-port. It has multi-model connectivity to the north western and central parts of India. It even provide convenient international trade gateway to Europe, Africa, America, and the Middle East. We even went to the controller‘s room from where they control all the ships which are coming and going. They even showed the offices and even showed how they store their chemicals. They even talked about the precautions they have to take for storing them. The one thing I liked the most was even that port was extended in such a large area, there was cleanliness at every corner. It was a great and so informative experience to visit the port and know so much about their management. Lastly, I just want to conclude that this whole programme taught me a lot and I wanted to thank all the faculties who came and shared their experience and knowledge with us and especially, to Mr. Sandeep Sharma who managed this whole programme in such a organized manner.
