MOSSBERG 1I5-M Data: Mossberg Model 151-M Origin: United States Manufacture: ©. F. Mossberg & Sons North Haven, necticut Gartridge: 22 Long Rifle Magazine capacity: 15 rounds Over-all length: 40 inches Barrel length: 20inches Weight: 7 pounds With its separate front stock piece giving it a full “"Mann- licher’? look, the old Model 151-M is instantly recogniz~ able, especially to a certain generation of shooters who began using it in the year after World War Il. Mechani- cally, the 151-M is virtually identical with the other Moss- berg 22 semi-autos, and the takedown instructions can generally be used for several of those as well. The firing mechanism is relatively simple, but there are a few points in total disassembly and reassembly where the amateur could get into difficulty. 12: Mossberg 151-M Disassembly: Back out the screw on the underside of the front 1. Secon ofthe stock near the muzzle. The sorew has a rebated shaft, and will stay in the stock piece when ithas cleared its threads in the barrel. Remove either of the two serews on the underside of the connector between the front section and the main stock, as shown, and remove the front section forward. The connector band will remain attached to either the stock or the front section, depending on which screw is removed. The uppersling swivel is normally onthe band, but on the gun shown itis missing. \ Being sure the strikeris in fired position, unscrew the 3. recenerendoap and remove ttowardine rear Move the bolt toward the rear until the bolt 4. ‘nance signs withthe larger opening atthe rear of its slot in the receiver, and remove the bolt handle toward the right. 2 Back out the main stock mounting screw, on the «Underside of the stock, forward of the trigger guard, and separate the action from the stock. ‘The extractor is retained by a vertical pin on the right side of the bolt near the front. After the pin is drifted ‘out, the extractor and its coil spring are taken off 7. ‘toward the right. Mossberg 151-M :113 Remove the bolt assembly from the rear of the 5. receiver. Drifting out the cross-pin in the bolt, just to the rear of the bolt handle hole, will release the striker and its spring, and the bolt spring and its quide, toward the rear. Caution: Both of these springs are under ten- sion, and this entire assembly will be instantly re- leased when the drift pushing out the cross-pin is withdrawn. Retard the springs, and let the tension off slowly, 6. 114 : Mossberg 151-M ‘The firing pin is retained in the top of the bolt by stake 8... depressions (arrows) in the bolt above a notch near the rear of the firing pin. The stakes are usually not ‘severe, and the firing pin can normally be driven out ‘toward the front, swaging the stake marks as it passes them. Take out the two screws in the disconnector 10. moun: Remove the front screw fst, and ake of the combination sear and disconnector spring. When both screws are removed, take off the dis- connector mount downward. Push out the sear cross-pin, and remove 11. the sear trom the bottom of he receiver. 9. ‘Support the disconnector mount on the underside of tthe receiver to avoid deformation, and drift out the ccross-pin in the disconnector. Remove the discon- nector downward. Mossberg 151-M : 115 12, Toramae ine set. carefully pry ear tall Remove the inner magazine tube. To release the cartridge stop, the tail of the spring must be gently pried out ofits slot in the tube, and the spring slid back unti it clears the stop. The stopis then slid downward off the tuba. On the gun shown, an od ropa has replaced the stop spring with a blade spring, ‘sorew-mounted in the stock well Reassembly Tips: ‘When replacing the bolt handle, align the handle 1. hole inthe Bolt withthe rear openingin the siotin the receiver, and be sure the handle is oriented so its cuts correspond with the narrow portion of the slot. 4. When replacing the action in the stock, pull the trig- ger very slightly to be sure its upper extensions properly engage the cross-pin in the disconnector. Mossberg 151-M 2117 When moving the bolt forward, press in the front of the sear to allow the striker to pass, so ‘there will be no tension on the spring. 3. 2. When installing the trigger spring, put it in with its separate ends to the rear. This will allow easy inser- tion of the pin without tension. When the spring is mounted on the pin, swing each of the separate ends over forward to hook each one around the vertical extensions of ine tngger- ‘When replacing the outer magazine tube, be sure the ‘angled tip ofthe retaining spring engages its recessonthe underside of the magazine tube before tightening the ‘spring mounting screw.
