Lebanon’s hidden epidemic

Reflection

Karim Almarkabi

The world is a dangerous place to live in. Human rights are being stepped on all
around the globe. In Lebanon people are suffering from all the horrifying things that are
happening to them each and every day, and yet people are silent. In the article “Lebanon’s
hidden epidemic” the author “Nadine Mazloum” tackles very important ideas that are in my
opinion a very serious problem that should be solved.

The author tackled the problem that she is issuing in a very direct way, leaving the
reader in some kind of an undying shock. I believe that if Mazloum satiated the rope of her
ideas in a simpler way, the reader would accept the idea better, especially if the reader was
Lebanese. Second, she included some scientific facts about long term memory loss and a
sense of disconnection from oneself. This made the reader believe the topic that she is saying
more, because of the facts. Finally, Mazloum also included how media had its share of role
in scaring people. This means that she thought of everything and included the small effects
to make her article believable.

The other factor that pushed this piece of writing up, is that it includes all the three
Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. By including pathos, Mazloum made the reader more emotional
and attached to the problem. However, the biggest downside of this article is that it talks
about all the hidden problems and the reasons why people are not doing anything without
including the solutions for them, which means that there is a huge gap in the article. Finally,
Mazloum left the reader in a questionable spot, not knowing how to help and how to start
solving the issue.

In conclusion, I believe that keeping up with this horrible situation is unacceptable. We

should combat oligarchy and dissociation by being more engaged in the community.
Although the author did not do any step forward in mentioning or starting the rebellion for
protecting our humanity rights, we should all as individuals spread out the massage and start
the union to fight this horrific corruption.
