TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR GOD ON OUR CAMPUS –

Nehemiah as a case Study

The purpose of God and His desire to see righteousness prevailing and young men and women molded
into useable vessels for the end harvest has been hindered simply because no one bothers nor take it to
heart. Eze. 22:30-31. God can do all His work on earth by Himself without needing any man but He
would not until He has found a man who is willing to take charge and be responsible unto Him as His
ambassador/representative on our campuses.

We will consider Nehemiah as a template for our study, hoping that God will grant unto us
understanding of what He is looking for,

1. Who is Nehemiah?
- A young captive from the land of Judah
- A cupbearer to king Artaxerxes
- A reformer and leader
2. Nehemiah’s passion.
Though in affluence, yet bothered about the situation of the remnants in Judah and the wall of
Jerusalem. Some characteristics necessary for a man who can carry responsibility are revealed to
us in His life.
a. He asked concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity and
concerning Jerusalem. Neh. 1:2.
He could have continued his life as a cupbearer, but he sees the welfare of the remnant as
his responsibility.
b. He wept, mourned, fasted and prayed.
The first place to cultivate a burden for the purpose of God is not in the crowd; but alone
with God. God won’t commit a serious burden on a free-ranger who will not first seek the
mind of God over the situation of things around him. God won’t bother any man, if he has
no grief for the unrighteousness on our campuses. Consider Moses as well; he has a burden
for the deliverance of God’s people. Acts 7:22-25; Heb. 11:24-25.
c. Why should not my countenance be sad…..? Neh. 2:1-3.
That is the correct mindset of a man who is willing to take responsibility for God. A man who
sees no other person to do God’s bidding. He lives as if God’s purpose will not advance if he
fails to rise. He is not blaming others for what went wrong, but ask God to hold him
accountable. Gen. 42:36-38; 43:1-9; 44:31-34.
d. Send me……..that I may build it. Neh. 2:5
A man who takes responsibility for God on earth sees himself as the answer to the yearnings
in the heart of the people. Heaven keeps asking a question until now, “Who shall I send and
who will for US?” Isa. 6:8. We have seen so many rottenness on our campuses, yet, no one
see God pointing to us as the man at the gate.
3. The assessment of the situation on our campuses. Neh. 2:12-18.
a. The wall of righteousness is broken down.
b. Immorality pervades every corner of our campuses and our Christian brothers and sisters
are not spared.
c. Cultism and every form of ungodliness.
d. Campus fellowships are not a platform for fellowship, training and sharpening for life and
ministry but a mini-rehearsal of what we are conceiving in our hearts of a ministry in future.
e. Soul winning is highly neglected and sound word of God is scarce.
4. What God is looking for in order to do the rebuilding. Neh. 2:18; 3:1-32.
God is earnestly looking for those who will rise for the work of rebuilding. Each man, is a team
member. You can only brighten your corner. Each man taking responsibility for God has enough
to do without competing with the others. Neh. 4:16-19.
5. …….will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish which are burned? Neh. 4:2.
God is not going to bring the angels for this noble task. Stones to be revived out of the heaps of
rubbish abound. Many who are oppressed, used and left to die by the devil will still be the useful
vessels if we take the responsibility to revive them. 1 Sam. 30:11-16.
Yes, there is a sure promise to “pursue, for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail
recover all”, but someone must take the responsibility.

Revival is coming to our campuses, but it will not come until there is a man who will be responsible.
Gen. 2:4-5; Isa. 62:1-12.

A CHARGE TO KEEP I HAVE

1. A charge to keep I have,
A God to glorify,
A never-dying soul to save,
And fit it for the sky.
2. To serve the present age,
My calling to fulfill;
O may it all my powers engage
To do my Master’s will!
3. Arm me with jealous care,
As in Thy sight to live,
And O, Thy servant, Lord, prepare
A strict account to give!
4. Help me to watch and pray,
And on Thyself rely,
Assured, if I my trust betray,
I shall forever die.
