The protection and enjoyment of human rights depend on people knowing about the rights to which they are entitled and the mechanisms which are available to enforce those rights. People who are aware of their human rights stand the best chance of defending themselves against the danger that these rights will be trampled on. Learning about one’s own rights also builds responsibility for the rights of others and paves the way to more tolerant and peaceful societies.
