Junior Year Academic Reflection

Fall

You are now about twenty months away from high school graduation. Over the course of those
months, you will be starting to make decisions about who you are as a young adult, where you
want to be, and what you want to do with your life beyond high school. Take a moment to reflect
on where you have been and where you are going.

Think of a class that you have had success with over the course or your high school career. Why
do you think you were successful in this particular class? What did you do to help yourself?
What did your teacher do? What have you discovered about what works for you as a learner?

I think a class that I’ve had success in is my science class because I’ve managed to keep trying to
keep it at a good level. I think I was successful because I do enjoy science in general and I do
find the things we do in there interesting. I tried on my packets and I tried to get early stamps. I
think I discovered that being interested in the topic is helpful for me.

Now think of a class that you have struggled with in some way. Why do you think you had a
harder time with this particular class? What did you do/not do that might have impacted the
experience? What might have helped?
I’ve struggled with math class only my sophomore and junior year. Freshman year was easy
for me but Algebra hasn’t. I think I should’ve asked for more help besides my teacher because
then I can understand more. I think Aleks has helped to raise up my grade.

At this point, where do you see yourself when you graduate from high school? College, J.C.,
trade school, work world, travel,....?
I’m not sure where I want to go. I’m thinking of going to the Santa Rosa Junior College or going
straight to a University but I’m not sure yet. I do want a job where I can travel and explore and
get paid but I don’t know.

What goals will you have to accomplish, academically speaking, in order to get yourself to
where you want to be?
I think I would have to take four years of most of my classes. Also, I would also have to work
hard.

What SPECIFIC strategies could you adopt over the course of this year to help yourself?

To work independently would have to be one strategy. I can study and help myself by doing
research.
