Career Readiness Reflection

(for Career Choices Events, Mock Interviews, Field Trips, Industry Expert One-On-Ones,
Simulations, Guest Speakers, etc.)

Date of presentation/event: Location:Sonoma State University

January 10, 2020

Brief description of activity (what was it?):

Mi Futuro was an event where we went through different workshops. They were all about
Healthcare Career Exploration. There were Behavioral and Primary Specialities, Mental Health
Wellness and College Readiness workshops. They began with different doctors explaining their
backgrounds and what doctor they are now and how they accomplished that. Then we went to
workshops based on the information we put before on a survey.

Why did you choose to attend this presentation?

I chose to attend this event because I wanted to learn more about healthcare careers and see if it
would be a path I might want to take. I felt like it would be interesting to see the different types
of healthcare careers there were.

What did you learn about this career/field that is appealing to you?
I learned that there are so many different things you can do. You can work with hearts, make
casts, or do things with the brain. I wanted to learn more about mental health and it was really
appealing learning that you can get a career in healthcare no matter what background you have or
all the doubts you are going to go through.

What areas of this career/field might be difficult for you?

I think learning all the parts of which career I choose to go through because they all learn
different things. For example which part am I going to learn more about compared to the others.
Which techniques I need to learn to master learning these skills I will need.

What skills have you already developed that would help you in this career/field?
Well during the event I learned how to put the cast on and what to do with the pastes. I learned
all the steps to how to wet it to the right consistency and which way to put it around the hand
portion. I also learned how to use a stethoscope and the parts of the heart. From AP Biology I

have learned the different systems in the body which can really help me and the different
processes that we go through.

What skills would you need to further develop (or begin to develop) to be successful in this
career/field? I would need to learn more about the different body parts, how they function, and
different medical diseases people can get. I need to further develop better study as I am going to
have to go through a lot of extra years of education if I choose to go down this path. I will have
to be more patient and develop my communication skills better so I can better communicate with
my patients or coworkers. I will also have to learn how to use the technology being used to check
heart rate or blood pressure.

Do you want to continue to investigate this career/field as a possibility for your future? Why or
why not? I am intrigued to look further into it but I might not because I am more into art and
graphics. I will consider it as another option since I will keep my options open to anything.
