Men, Inst, Biol., Zool, Ser,"1938 8 (3): 275—310 A NEW SPECIES OF CARIDINA FROM HUNAN, CHINA (DECAPODA: ATYIDAE) Guo Zhaoliang Jiang Hui Zhang Minsong (Department of Animal Sciences and (The Bureau of Animals Husb- Fishery, Hunan Agricultural College, andry and Aquatic Products, Bao~ Changsha 410128) jing County, Hunan) The present paper deals with a new species of Caridina collected in deep ground water from Yongshun County, Hunan in 1989. The type specimens are kept in the Hunan Agricultural College. The diagnosis of the new species is given as follows, Caridina ablepsia sp. nov. (Figs. i—9) Rostrum reaches from the end of the first segment to the end of the sec— ond segment of the antennular peduncle. The dorsal border bears 10—24 teeth, 1—9 of which are placed on carapace behind orbital margin. The ventral border bears 2—8 teeth, The anterolateral angle has no pterygostomian spine. The ratio (lengthswidth) of (1) carpus of ist and 2nd peracopod are 1.6- 2.3 and 4,3-5.6, (2) propodus of 3rd and 5th peraeopod to dactylus are 5.4- 7.5 and 4,8-5.7. (3) dactylus of 3rd and 5th peraeopod are 2.4-2.9 and 3,2~- 3.9. The dactylus of 3rd and 5th peraeopod bears 4—6 (most commonly 5) and 30-52 spinules respectively. ‘The endopod of the Ist pleopod of male is suboval in shape, and wider proximally. The appendix interna reaches the extremity of the endopod. The appendix masculina of second pleopod is rodshaped, its inner and distal borders bear one row of stout spine, Remarks, The new species is allied to Caridina dianchiensis Liang et Yan, but differs from the later in the following features, 1, The eye is rudimenta~ ry, and without any pigments 2. Rostrum short, the distal of dorsal border is provided with teeths 3. The inner border of the endopod of the Ist pleopod is slightly dilated at middle, and the outer border of it bears long plumose setaes 4, The 3rd pair of legs of the males and females is about the same length, Holotype, (89-05-03) , paratype 5 $3, 6 2%.
