At ContainerWest we have been providing reliable service and well-designed products to

a broad range of customers since 1977. We have a dedicated team of nearly 50 people, a
CSA certified 30,000 sq ft plant, and hundreds of units in stock.
ContainerWest specializes in custom manufacturing container-based buildings and

enclosures. We also sell and rent a wide variety of shipping containers, storage units and
site offices through our main yards in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and branch locations
throughout Western Canada.

Buying Process
Are you ready to purchase a container? Please call us at 1-800-561-9530 to place your order,
or submit a quote request at www.containerwest.com and one of our experienced sales reps
will contact you.
You will be asked the following information to complete your purchase:

• Where you are calling from (your location)
• The size of the container you are looking for
• Whether the container is new or used
• Your billing address and contact information
• Your delivery address (if applicable)
• Payment method
• Any information you can provide about your delivery site (see Delivery & Logistics on p.6)
• Preferred delivery date
Your Sales Rep will use the above information to complete a sales contract. Your delivery (or pickup)
will be arranged as soon as a signed sales contract is received and payment processed.
Renting Process
The rental process is the same as the sales process, except that you will also be asked how
long you plan on renting the container. Long term discounts, large order discounts, and
buyout options are available. Our rental fleet consists of basic storage containers as well as
container offices, workshops, and deluxe storage units with insulation, heat and lights.
The following aspects of renting are important to note:
• Delivery costs to and from your site are in addition to the rental rate.
• Only some rental units are available for sale. Let us know upfront that you would like the
option to buy out your rental, and we will select an appropriate unit for you.
• Our minimum rental charge is for 2 months; however, you can return the unit at any time.
• When you no longer need your container, let us know and we will arrange for pickup.
• To ensure consistent quality for our customers, rentals are inspected. Please take care of
your rental unit to ensure no additional repair charges are incurred.

Adding Basic Modifications & Accessories
Basic modifications and container accessories are a quick and easy way to customize your
container to suit your needs. Additions such as a roll-up door, window or insulation can
dramatically increase the utility of your container. Basic modifications & accessories are
simply added on to your container purchase. Please to page 52 for examples. Just let your
Sales Rep know what you’re looking for.

Below is an example of the process for a larger custom manufacturing project:
• An estimate and quote are prepared by our application engineers and sales team.
• We work with you to optimize the estimate to within your available budget.
• Once the project scope is agreed upon, you receive
a sales contract.
• Work begins once the sales contract is signed
and a deposit collected.
• Our engineers create shop drawings.
• Layout drawings are sent for your approval.
• Our purchasing department orders materials.
• Fabrication is completed.
• Delivery is arranged.
• Site Installation is completed.

Delivery & Logistics
Delivery or Pickup?
Our dedicated Logistics Team will source the best available rates, and handle the
coordination of delivery for you. The cost of delivery is always in addition to the container
purchase price or rental rate. You also have the option of organizing your own trucks and
delivery.
General Site Suitability
The site must be easy to access, reasonably flat and firm and have enough space for the
selected truck to drop off your container. Please see the next page for details on delivery
trucks.
Site Access and Conditions

Please inform your sales representative of the general site conditions, and any challenges
such as:
• Major road construction
• Narrow, winding and steep roads
• Soft ground, mud or snow
• Overhead wires
• Obstacles such as fences, walls, trees, and poles
• Ditches and slopes
This information helps the logistics team select the right type of truck, prepares the driver
for any obstacles he may encounter, and helps make the delivery estimate as accurate as
possible so you know what to expect when you are invoiced.
If site conditions change significantly or the site contact is no longer available to direct the
driver, please alert your sales representative before the delivery day, so the delivery can be
rescheduled.
Container Orientation
Let your sales representative know how you would like the container positioned on your site
in which orientation the container needs to be. This will ensure that the container doors are
facing the right direction when the container is delivered.
Standard Deliveries
Our standard delivery quotes apply to straightforward deliveries to sites with easy access.
The type of truck used for standard deliveries varies by location. Containers are placed
either directly behind the truck (tilt-deck truck) or immediately beside and parallel to the truck
(crane truck).
Non-Standard Deliveries
Non-standard delivery estimates are based on the type and size of truck or equipment
required and the time it takes to complete the delivery. We have extensive experience
coordinating challenging and remote location deliveries.
Standard Crane Truck Delivery
Lower Mainland of BC: a crane truck will place the container immediately beside and
parallel to the truck.
Standard Tilt Deck Truck Delivery
All other locations: a tilt deck truck will place the container directly behind the truck.
Non Standard Delivery
Example: A complex barge delivery with crane placement of over 20 modified containers
at a remote luxury wilderness resort near Tofino, BC. Two of the 40’ units were extra wide
containers with one side cut out and floor to ceiling windows. The two units had to be delicately
and precisely placed, then welded together at the site to create a double wide dining hall with
scenic ocean views.

they had the space. Constructed from an extra-wide container, this unit has a 7’ wide floor
to ceiling window providing a calming view to the outside and ample natural lighting. Energy
efficient insulation, heating/cooling, and overhead LED lighting allow you to control both your
work environment and your electricity costs.
This comfortable work space includes a heated bathroom with a glazed window, a convenient
kitchenette to prepare food and drinks. The painted drywall and durable vinyl wood flooring

Our Garden Suite Studio Apartment is a private & practical accommodation, ideal as a single,
student, or guest suite for regular visitors. Constructed from an extra-wide container, this unit

lighting. Energy efficient insulation, heating / cooling, and overhead LED lighting allow you to
control both your living environment and your electricity costs.
This comfortable, building code-compliant space includes a heated bathroom with shower, a
kitchen, a storage cabinet and a double wall bed that turns into a kitchen table or desk during the

Architect’s Office

Designed by architect Randy Bens, this unique 28’ x 11’5” wide office meets building
code and local bylaws, and serves as a full time office and showpiece at the architect’s
home in New Westminster, BC. This beautiful modern workspace includes a washroom,
kitchenette, built-in custom wood desk, storage closets and overhead shelving. A full sized
window in one end, wood paneling, and green carpet tiling help create an open, warm and
inviting space.

Situated at a remote boat-access site near Tofino, BC, this luxury wilderness retreat wanted to
make an impression with its new ocean-view dining hall & lounge. The architecturally unique
design blends glass, steel and wood construction for a contemporary West Coast feel.
Construction included two 40’ long steel shipping containers that were structurally reinforced
and extended vertically to achieve higher ceilings. The walls were replaced with floor to ceiling
glass, and an external staircase was constructed to provide access to a rooftop patio. The
prefabricated units were transported from our Richmond facility via barge, craned into place,
structurally bolted then seam welded together for waterproofness. The interior was finished on
site by the client using local West Coast woods.

Engineering Expertise
Our in-house engineering department specializes in simple, innovative designs for shipping
container-based construction. We utilize 3-D modeling engineering software programs such
as SolidWorks with finite element analysis, and also offer full colour renderings to better
picture how the structure will look when completed. Our engineering team can provide
your project with a concept design,permitting & building code support, design to specific
standards, detailed design, approval drawings, and manufacturing plans.

ContainerWest is the industry leader in the design, engineering, and

manufacture of live fire, confined space and military training complexes
using steel shipping containers.
Containers make a rugged and cost-effective building block for these structures, which can
be completely customized to provide a seemingly endless number of training environments.
The interior network of enclosed rooms, open spaces, and staircases provide a durable
and controlled environment. For live fire training, burn rooms are engineered to withstand
continuous, controlled burns up to 450°C without conducting heat to the rest of the building
or enduring major damage.
ContainerWest has had the opportunity to work with numerous fire departments,
municipalities and organizations to create training facilities that have ranged in both size
and complexity. We work with our clients to develop designs that meet specific training

20’ Deluxe Lined Office
Our Deluxe Lined Office is designed for more extreme climates and for a longer term
workspace. These fully insulated and temperature controlled units will maintain comfortable
working conditions all year round. New builds also feature LED lights, an extra-large
window, a data cable entry port and a pre-installed book shelf and coat hooks.
Our 20S.3006 model was specifically designed for use in Alberta, and has achieved Alberta
Building Code Part 10 Certification for Relocatable Buildings.
Container doors open on some models to provide easy access for equipment that needs to
be secured at night; while corner castings make moving and stacking units easy. As with

Refrigerated Containers
With an integral refrigeration unit and dense foam insulation, the refrigerated containers
(reefers) can maintain any set temperature between -35°C and 35°C. By controlling the
temperature inside the container, these containers are great for keeping perishable goods
cold or frozen.
In addition to selling and renting new refrigerated containers, we also carry a limited quantity
of non-working refrigerated containers. Non-working refrigerated containers can be a good
option if you need a well-insulated container, but don’t have time to wait for a custom insulated
container to be built.

The 20’ open side containers have full width side doors on one side in addition to the floor-to-
ceiling door at the end. With one side of the container able to fully open it becomes easy to
securely store and access long items such as lumber, pipe, kayaks, or load & unload storage
items via forklift. Also popular as temporary retail shops/displays as the unit can securely store
the products at night, then open up during the day to create an interesting and inviting display

Offshore DNV Containers
DNV or offshore containers are made to withstand the high degree of wear and tear caused
by their use on offshore oil rigs or wind energy platforms. Although similar in appearance to
traditional containers, these units feature heavier duty materials such as thicker steel, more
rust resistant paint, and checker plate rather than hardwood flooring. In addition, these units
have components that are specifically designed to safely allow transport by forklift, container
lift and crane. Each unit comes with a lifting harness to facilitate a crane lift. With an anti-
slip coating on the roof, and a simple ladder built into the front of the unit, these units were
designed for workers to be able to safely attach the harness to the 4 specially designed corner
castings and then onto a crane hook.
Although designed for an offshore environment, these heavy duty, safer and easy to transport

Below are some popular examples of container modifications & accessories. Other options

Man Door
These insulated steel doors help to maintain comfortable
temperatures, allow for easy access to the container, and are
very durable. Man doors are installed with reinforced frames.
Roll-Up Door
Roll-up doors are installed with reinforced frame, a lock
and a latch set. These doors are functional and practical for
residential and industrial use since they allow for easy access
to the container.
Bulkhead: 6’7” x up to 7’10” Roll-up door
Side Wall: 8’ x up to 7’10” Roll-up door
Vents
Vents or louvres allow for proper airflow which helps to vent
potentially hazardous fumes while also reducing condensation,
keeping stored goods dry.
Available in various sizes with optional snowhoods.
Ramps
Our heavy duty steel ramps are not only designed to allow
for vehicle access to containers, but also increase overall
accessibility and ease of use for wheeled equipment.
Insulation
1” to 3” spray foam on ceiling, walls
and/or undercarriage
Closed cell polyurethane foam is used,
which increases the structural strength
of the container. This foam is water and
mold resistant, making it very durable.
Basic liner package

This R14 insulated and G1S plywood
lined package is ideal for milder

Lockboxes
These lock boxes protect your pad lock from the threat of bolt
cutters, improving the security of the container. Can accept
most standard padlocks. Lock boxes can be installed on man
doors and container doors.
Twist Lock
Twist locks allow the connection of two containers, either
stacked or side-by-side.
Bridge Clamp
Bridge clamps allow the connection of two containers, side-by-
side.
Shelving Brackets
Containers have steel lashing rings regularly spaced along
the interior walls so cargo can be tied down. Our versatile
and easy to install vertical shelving brackets simply hook into
these existing rings.

Cut-down Containers
These units start as 20’ or 40’ containers, then are cut down to the desired length. We often
have cut-downs of varying lengths in stock that you can choose from, or we will gladly cut
down a container to your desired length. Once the desired length has been achieved, these
units are typically refurbished and painted to match the original shipping line colour. All our
containers are inspected to be wind & water tight; keeping your belongings safe from the

Extra Long Containers (45’ & 53’)
The longest containers available (and transportable) are used 45 ft and 53 ft containers.
53 ft long containers are also an extra 6” wide, providing over 60% more internal storage
capacity than a 40 ft standard height container. These containers are specifically designed
for truck & rail transport, and are typically retired from the rail lines after at least 10 years of
use. They tend to have less corrosion than a typical used container, as they spend less time
at sea. Features on these units sometimes vary, and aluminum is sometimes incorporated
into the construction.
Popular for the storage of extra-long items, or as a practical alternative to buying a 2nd
container if your storage items won’t fit in a 40 ft container. Available in limited quantities
and locations; please contact us for availability and pricing.

Extra Wide Containers (20’ & 40’)
The extra wide containers have been custom built with BC transport
permitting in mind. Our 40’ High Cube Super Wide (11’5” wide)
is the widest possible container that can be moved in BC without
requiring a pilot car (some exceptions). They are very popular for our
custom projects, such as container homes, equipment enclosures or
wastewater treatment plants.
They save money, time and reduce risk, compared with modifying a
normal width container to fit your needs.
Extra wide containers are available exclusively for our

custom manufacturing projects.

ContainerWest has been selling, repairing and certifying containers for the global shipping
industry since 1977. We can provide certified inspections, or export surveys, and any minor
repairs needed, to ensure your container meets the strict requirements for global shipping.
Some specialty sizes, as well as heavily damaged as-is containers, are not appropriate for
global shipping.
We have experience with providing custom modified containers that meet cargo ship
requirements; which can reduce costs significantly over break bulk shipping.
Large Orders
If you are in need of a large quantity of shipping containers or custom modified containers,
ContainerWest can help. We have the resources and experience to handle bulk orders
up to 500 units.
We have an extensive inventory of new and used shipping containers and can often fill bulk
orders of basic containers immediately from existing stock. If sufficient stock is unavailable,
we will leverage our established supplier network to source the required quantity of
containers at the best price available for your time-line.
For factory-built special orders the lead time varies depending on the product, quantity and
current economic conditions. Most orders start arriving within 2 to 4 months.
