This lab tested three samples: distilled water, a 100 mg/L glucose solution, and raw wastewater.

Before testing, the raw wastewater sample was diluted by measuring 5 mL of the raw wastewater
into 50 mL of distilled water. 2 mL of each sample and the diluted raw wastewater was then added
to digestion vials that contain standard potassium dichromate digestion solution and silver sulfate.
The digestion bottle was held at a 45 degree angle when adding the sample. Once the sample was
added and the cap was closed tightly, the bottle was inverted several times to mix the contents.
Three digestion bottles of distilled water, two digestion bottles of glucose solution, and two
digestion bottles of raw wastewater were created. Between each different sample, the 2 mL pipette
was rinsed for 20 seconds in distilled water. Three digestion bottles of distilled water, three
digestion bottles of the glucose solution, and tow digestion bottles of the diluted raw wastewater
were created.

Once the samples were created, they were labelled and placed on a 150°C heating block for one
hour. The standard practice according to Standard Methods is two hours, however, for the sake of
time, only one hour was used in this lab. Then, the bottles were placed in a large beaker of room
temperature water to cool. After the bottles were no longer hot to the touch, one
