elements of a communication network. Network
topology is the topological structure of a network
and may be depicted physically or logically

BUS Topology
Bus topology is a network type in which every computer and network
device is connected to single cable. When it has exactly two endpoints, then
it is called Linear Bus topology.

RING Topology
It is called ring topology because it forms a ring as each computer is
connected to another computer, with the last one connected to the first.
Exactly two neighbours for each device.

STAR Topology
In this type of topology all the computers are connected to a single hub
through a cable. This hub is the central node and all others nodes are
connected to the central node.

MESH Topology
It is a point-to-point connection to other nodes or devices. All the network
nodes are connected to each other. Mesh has n(n-1)/2 physical channels to
link n devices.

Q5. Differentiate between a modem and a router. [2]

Ans- A modem is a device that converts digital computer signals into a form
(analog signals) that can travel over phone lines. It also re-converts the
analog signals back into digital signals. The word modem is derived from
its function MOdulator/DEModulator.

A router is a computer device used in trafficking directions..An example of

a router is a woodworking tool.router is connected to two or more data lines
from different networks.

MODEM:
1-INTER-NETWORKING DEVICE
2-INTERNET CONNECTION IS NECESSARY

other cells as reference while working in the spreadsheet.

Q8. How many different views are available in spreadsheet [2]

application? What is the default view?

Ans-
Normal View: The default view of the spreadsheet application is
the Normal. It’s a collection of cells arranged in the work area.

Page Layout: It is to quickly fine tune a worksheet that contains

many charts or huge amounts of data and achieve professional
looking results.

Page Break Preview: This option is similar to the Page Layout

option except you can set the area that is to be set as a page after
inserting page break.

Custom Views: To view selected areas of a document the custom

view option can be used.

Full Screen: Selecting this option makes the workbook cover the
entire screen. All tabs are hidden from view.

ascending or descending order.
For example, sorting a list of names of students alphabetically or marks in
descending order from the highest to the lowest.

(ii) Filtering is a quick and efficient method where you display only that
data that meets a given criteria. Ms excel uses two types of filtering
methods, that is, Auto filter and Advanced filter.

architecture in details.

Ans-
1-Network Architecture is an overall design of a computer hardware and
their functional organization and configuration.

2-
-» Client-server architecture, architecture of a computer network in which
many clients (remote processors) request and receive service from a
centralized server (host computer).
-» Client computers provide an interface to allow a computer user to request
services of the server and to display the results the server returns.
-» Servers wait for requests to arrive from clients and then respond to them.

Q16. Identify the Domain name and URL from the following.
http://www.income.in/home.aboutus.html [5]
Define Domain name, URL and IP address.

URLs (Uniform Resource Locators) and IP addresses are just identifiers

used for this purpose. The main difference between URL and IP address is
what they point to. ... In comparison, a typical URL contains the protocol to
be used (i.e. HTTP, FTP), the domain name or IP address, the path, and
optional fragment identifier.
Q17. Explain any 5 types of charts available in spreadsheets. [5]

Ans-Bar charts: A bar chart (horizontal bars) emphasizes the comparison

between items at a fixed period of time. This chart type also includes
cylinder, cone, and pyramid subtypes.

Column charts: A column chart, unlike a bar chart to which it is often

compared, emphasizes variation over a period of time. This chart type also
includes cylinder, cone, and pyramid subtypes

Line charts: A line chart shows the relationship of the changes in the data
over a period of time.

Pie charts: Pie charts contain just one chart data series. A pie chart shows
the relationship of the parts to the whole.

Area charts: An area chart shows the relative importance of values over
time.

XY (Scatter) charts: Scatter charts are useful for showing a correlation

among the data points that may not be easy to see from data alone.

Q18. Explain the process of data transfer over internet. [5]

Ans- Steps followed while transferring data are

 The data is broken up into bits of same sized pieces called packets.
 A header is added to each packet explaining where the data has come
from, where it should end up and where it fits in with the rest of the packets.

Each packet is sent from computer to computer until it finds its destination.

 Each computer on the way decides where next to send the packet. All
packets may not take the same route.

 At the destination, the packets are examined. If any packets are missing or
damaged, a message is sent asking for them to be re-sent. This continues
until all packets have been received intact.

 The packets are now reassembled into their original form.

Q19. Define Networking. List the various advantages of Networking.

[5]
