As you know mathematics is a section in your CLAT exam that gives a sure score in exam and also gives you an edge
to you as compare to other candidates but many candidates feel difficult to start math’s preparation.
The first thing before start preparation you should know about Quantitative Aptitude section. It is a form of math’s
with a good blend of reasoning skills. Here your reasoning ability play a very significant role in Quantitative
Aptitude.
In your CLAT & AILET exam you have a time limit and you have a limited time for solving quantitative aptitude, so
if you practice well then you can solve all questions timely.
For many students, its starting seems very difficult, so best point from where you can start math’s is your classroom.
First understand all concepts and examples in the class and then repeat at least two times from yourself and then try
new question from your study material. You can set a number for number of question for each topic. It will vary from
topic to topic for few important topics it is 50 – 60 and for few topics it is 30 – 40. But on an average it is 40-50 questions
per topic.
After completion of topic, attempt a Topic test so you can understand how much you have learned. In topic test you
can attempt approximately 50% of the total test then meaning is you understood topic but it need practice for 100%.
Repeat this process for each topic. In 45 days you will find that you have completed 4-5 important topics.
The second thing you will face difficulty in mock test. In mock test first you should know time division for each
subject. For maths you have 20-23 minutes in each CLAT Mock and 10-12 minutes in AILET mock.
In every CLAT mock you have to give 20- 23 minutes for Quantitative Aptitude section even you are solving only 4-
5 question but time is constant in each mock. When you regularly follow time limit rule you will find your time in each
mock is constant but your number of question are increasing mock by mock.

The vast majority of Americans have air conditioning but in Germany almost nobody does. At least not yet when
temperatures in Berlin rose to an uncomfortable 37 Celsius for the month of June. By letting people in overheated
climates concentrate on their work and get a good night's sleep, air conditioning has played a big part in driving
global prosperity and happiness over the past few decades - and that revolution has still barely begun. About half
of Chinese households have this modern tool, but of the 1.6 billion people living in India and Indonesia, only 88
million have access to air conditioning at home. For many, relief is in sight. Because of the combination of
population growth, rising incomes, falling equipment prices and urbanisation, the number of air-conditioning units
installed globally is set to jump from about 1.6 billion today to 5.6 billion by the middle of the century, according to
the International Energy Agency.
(A) The demand for air conditioning will rise in the world in the coming days.

Kulraj was a member of the National Sadharan Party (NSP). He was against the ruling Government and gave a flurry of
hate speeches against the Government. Some of the party-workers, on his provocation and planning, vandalized some
Government offices and attacked a convoy where the Prime Minister of India was also there. Kulraj was not satisfied with
the protests and to bring downthe credibility of the Government, he hired the services of Shariq and Mudit to wage war
against India.
Shariq and Mudit came to India with three other accomplices and started carrying out bomb blasts in major cities. They
kept getting out of the clutches of the police because Kulraj had a lot of influential connections, that helped them escape
everytime.
When NSP’s veteran party leader, Munshiram got wind of Kulraj’s actions, he was horrified and told him to leave the party
immediately and stop the madness.Kulraj told Munshiram that he had hacked into the party’s confidential e-mail accounts
and would manipulate them to malign the NSP if Munshiram so much as even opens his mouth. Realizing Munshiram’s
hapless position, even Shariq and Mudit began to threaten Munshiram with dire consequences if he did not pay themlkahs
of rupees every month. They started using this money for funding the terrorist activities.
During this planning, Shariq and Mudit went to Rifle 906 Ltd., a shop selling arms and ammunition and forcibly acquired a
number of weapons, without any licence or permit whatsoever. Alarmed, the owner informed the police. The police zeroed
in on both the culprits and they were put in high security prisons. However, one day, while they were being transported
from the prison to the Court for trial, the Inspector, LalgunChaurasia stopped the vehicle midway to eat paan. He left the

anniversary, he declared that he wished to marry a Muslim woman. A month later, he got married again, while his
first wife was still alive. Is his second marriage legal?
(a) Ram Singh’s first wife was still a Hindu, and therefore, his second marriage cannot be lawful.
(b) The second marriage is void from the beginning as Ram Singh converted to another religion for the purpose of

was certain that it was a tiger. Scared that he was in the territory of a tiger who would attack him any moment, he
aimed his gun at the bush. Once he was sure that the tiger was dead, Akshay went towards the bush and realized
that it was actually a human being. He alerted the forest officials, who later confirmed that it was a poacher who had
been killed. Is Akshay responsible for having committed culpable homicide?

some important phone calls from Director, SidhuBinodKhopda, as a result of which, Sushmita misses out on signing
a film with him, which goes on to become a blockbuster success.
(a) Shilpa is liable to pay Sushmita, as a result of the indemnity bond signed
(b) Shilpa is not liable to pay because it was a genuine mistake on Shamita's part
(c) Shilpa is not liable to pay as the act was not as a direct result of Shamita's employment

Bhim, it is noticed that the vehicle has some scratches on its sides, which would amount to Rs. 5,000 for repair. Khosla
seeks to invoke the penalty clause in agreement as per which Bhim is to reimburse any cost incurred by the former
as a result of usage of the van.

property is well managed, she asks him to draft a deed as per which, her property was to be managed by a trust.
However, the lawyer colludes with Shatrughan's wife and they make Kaikai sign a transfer deed in favor of her son.
She contests the validity of the transfer deed. Decide.
(a) Both the documents are ultimately meant for transfer of property and hence, she won’t succeed
(b) The lawyer is guilty of forgery and jointly, he is guilty of conspiracy
(c) Shatrughan and his wife are both guilty, and should be punished for misguiding the lawyer
(d) A transfer deed is substantially different from a trust deed and hence, Kaikai Devi will succeed

not possible to commute on a daily basis from the city to the village and Anurag proposes that they shift to the village
itself. However, Komolika, who hasn’t ever lived away from the luxuries of the city life, is reluctant to do so. Finally,
it is decided that she stays in the city and Anurag shifts to the village. After a few months of living alone, Komolika

(d) No, Anurag has never mentioned, nor indicated by conduct that he will not support Komolika and her needs
financially
Principle: If a person issues a cheque in favor of another towards discharging a debt and the cheque is returned by the bank for want of
cash, the person who issued the cheque shall be imprisoned for a period of at least 1 month, in addition to the payment of a fine.
28. Facts:Arjun visits a jewelry shop with his wife, who sets her heart on a beautiful golden peacock pendant, set with
precious stones, worth Rs. 15 Lakhs. Since he was short of cash at that time, and the store belonged to his friend,
Karan, he borrowed a sum of Rs. 3 Lakhs from his friend, Karan, and paid the balance amount himself. In order to
repay the borrowed amount, Arjun issued a cheque in Karan's name, but the cheque was returned by the bank for
lack of funds in Arjun's account. Karan files a case against Arjun and the matter reaches the court. Arjun says that he
is ready to repay the entire amount, but the court convicts him and sentences him to two months imprisonment.
(a) The conviction is appropriate since the cheque bounced in the first instance
(b) The conviction is inappropriate since everyone should be given a second chance
(c) The conviction is inappropriate as Arjun was not given a notice prior to the hearing
(d) The conviction is appropriate as the privilege of borrowing money comes with the duty to return it
29. The clause stopping Varsha from running shops in northern India is:
(a) Valid since partial restraints may be applied
(b) Void since it makes an unreasonable restraint
(c) Valid since the contract involves a sale of goodwill
(d) Void since the contract is uncertain
31. In case the clause specified that Varsha could not open up puja shops in Delhi for 20 years the agreement would be:
(a) Valid (b) Void (c) Ambiguous (d) Voidable
33. Assuming that the shop was being run by the temple organization with the proceeds going to charity, the principle
regarding restraint would be:
(a) Applicable (b) Inapplicable (c) Extended (d) Disregarded
Principle: A minor is incompetent to contract and all contracts involving a minor are void. No liability or obligations flow from such
a contract. Where the minor successfully shows in a suit that the contract is void for his incompetence he must make good the loss to the
other party to the extent that he has benefited.
Facts: Mahesh was 17 years old when he lost his parents and began to run his family business of trading in groceries. To
support his fledgling business he borrowed Rs 25,000 from the local moneylender at an interest of 5% for 2 years. Mahesh
was consequently unable to repay the moneylender.
35. Assuming that Mahesh had repaid the principle amount with the applicable interest, the contract in question would
be considered:
(a) Executed (b) Fulfilled (c) Void (d) Voidable
36. A suit by the moneylender for repayment of principle and payment of interest would result in:
(a) Favour of the moneylender since he had paid Mahesh
(b) Favour of the moneylender since Mahesh had failed to repay him

the act or that what he is doing is wrong or contrary to law.
37. Facts: Anubhav is a mentally ill person under treatment. He has been responding to the treatment so well that he was
lately allowed to move around in his home. When his younger brother, Saurabh, returns home after work, he usually
brings a piece of chocolate for Anubhav. Today, however, Saurabh gets very late at night in returning home, and
therefore is unable to bring the usual piece of chocolate. Anubhav demands his chocolate, and on being denied one,
all hell breaks loose and he runs out, jumps into his brother’s car, finds the keys in place, drives away at a very high
speed into a lightless street and runs over a pavement dweller sleeping right on the road, who in the process got
seriously injured. Is Anubhav liable?
(a) The pavement dweller was reckless enough to sleep on mid road. Thus, he has only himself to blame.
(b) Saurabh is liable as he had carelessly left the keys on the jeep to be driven away, knowing fully well that his
brother was still somewhat mentally deranged.
(c) Anubhav is liable, as he was completely out of his mind.
(d) Nobody is liable.
Principles:
I. An insurance contract is based on utmost good faith. The insured is required to disclose those facts which are known exclusively
to the insured, to the insurer, so that the insurer can exert an influence over the protection of the insured, or the insured property.
II. If the insurer proves that the insured had flouted his duty of utmost good faith, the insurer is not required to pay the insured
amount, and can effect a proportionate deduction.
38. Facts: Siddhant obtains life insurance. He represents that he is in good health and does not require a medical checkup
because he is only 27 years old. He does not disclose that he is a chain smoker, and has already suffered a heart attack.
The insurance policy is granted. Three months later, Siddhant dies of the second heart attack. The insurer refuses to
grant the huge life insurance amount to his wife. Will the wife succeed in an action against the insurer?
(a) Yes. The insurer is supposed to remit the payment if the death of the insuredoccurs.
(b) Yes. Siddhant having had a heart attack is not important enough to have been disclosed to the insurer, as heart
attacks occur very rarely.
(c) No. The insurer can reduce the payment due to the wife of Siddhant.
(d) No. The insurer can deny payment entirely because Siddhant cheated.
Principle:
I. Specific performance means the actual carrying of the contract as agreed. It is a direction given by the Court to perform the
promise that he has made. Specific performance is not granted in contracts involving personal skill.
39. Fact: Dr. Mehrotra agrees to perform a certain operation and takes an advance of Rs.1,00,000 from the patient. Later
on, he refuses to operate as he has to go on an overseas trip. Examine whether the patient can get a decree of specific
performance from the Court against Dr. Mehrotra.
(a) Yes. The patient can get a direction of specific performance from the Court as he has already paid an advance of
Rs 1,00,000.
(b) Yes. The patient can get a direction of specific performance from the Court as there are very few doctors in the
country who can perform this type of operation.
(c) No. The patient cannot get an order for specific performance since surgery reuires skill and expertise of a doctor.
(d) No. The patient cannot get an order for specific performance as the doctor is genuinely not able to perform the
surgery.
Principle: The object of an agreement is lawful unless it is forbidden by law; or is of such a nature that, if permitted, it would defeat the
provisions of any law; or is fraudulent; involves or implies injury to the person or property of another person; the court regards it as
immoral or it is opposed to public policy.
(a) The contract will be void since its terms since it is opposed to the personal laws of the parties.
(b) The contract will be void since the children are not a party to the contract.
(c) The contract will be void since a woman cannot enter into a contract with her husband.
(d) The contract will be valid.
Principle: Innocent mistake may be a good defence, though absence of care is not.
41. Fact: Samir Alam of India Post delivered the telegram to Ms Namrata. She opened the telegram and read the content
without looking at the name of the addressee. The content of the telegram was as follows: “husband seriously injured

to the wrong address. Is India Post responsible for any wrong?
(a) India Post cannot be made liable for weak nerves of the recipient
(b) India Post is liable to compensate Namrata for delivering the telegram at the wrong address
(c) Samir Alam should have been more careful. However, he has done no legal wrong.
(d) Namrata has opened the telegram without checking the address and hence India Post is not liable
Principle: If the Pledgor (one who pledges goods) makes default in payment of the debt, the pledge (one to whom goods are pledged) has
a right to sell the goods pledged after giving a notice (i.e. bringing the matter to the knowledge of the other party) of the intended sale,
to the pledgor.
42. Facts: Sunita, an old widow, pledged her jewellery in Everybody’s Bank and had taken aloan to meet her daughter’s
marriage expenses. As per the pledge agreement, Sunita was supposed to renew or close the loan in a year’s time;
failing which the bank reserved its right to auction the jewellery after serving a notice. At the end of one year,
Everybody’s Bank sent a notice to Sunita. Unfortunately, she had gone to her daughter’s house for three months and
her house was locked at that time. So, the notice returned with the endorsement “Door Locked” by the post office.
The bank went ahead with the auction after having received this endorsement. Later, when Sunita approached the
bank for renewal of the loan, she was shocked to learn that her jewellery was all auctioned. Aggrieved, she moved
the court.
(a) Sunita will succeed as the bank had failed to bring to her attention the auction sale.
(b) Sunita will not succeed as she knew the terms of the agreement
(c) Bank will succeed as they had served the notice to Sunita.
(d) Sunita will not succeed as the Bank did serve her with a notice
(a) Prima Info shall not be successful as the employment agreement was in restraint of trade and is thus void.
(b) Prima Info shall not be successful as the employment agreement only governed the employees conduct during
the course of employment.
(c) Prima Info shall succeed as Mr. A’s conduct can be harmful to Prima Info’s intellectual property and trade secrets.
(d) Prima Info shall succeed as restraints during the course of employment are not treated as restraint of trade.
44. Principle: Any agreement in restraint of trade, whether partial or total, is void.
Facts: Mr. A joins Prima Info Corp Ltd in June 2012 under an employment agreement for three years. One of the
clauses of the agreement stipulates that the employee shall not join any other rival corporation for a period of three
years. However, owing to a downturn in market at the turn of the financial year, Prima Info downsizes the
