1. How instrumental has LegalEdge been to you
for your preparation for CLAT?
Right from the day I decided to give CLAT and
AILET to the time when I sat for them and
beyond, LE has been a constant source of
guidance, support and inspiration went beyond
the call of duty and consciously made an attempt
to enrich my prep through programs like Super
30 and ResedentiaLE.
2. Who was your inspiration throughout your
preparation?
First and foremost my parents were the source of
my inspiration I wouldn’t be here if it were not
for the fact that they always stood by me and
backed my decisions, also the teachers at my
school and LE who were so committed and
passionate about there subjects that it compelled
me to work harder and harder and better and
better and also my friend Ishan Bhatnagar who
always inspired and motivated me to be here.
3. How did you analyze your mocks?
Analysing mocks is quintessential part of your
law entrance examination preparation. I so as to
analyse my mocks, use to redo my mock paper. I
use to go to every question again and try to learn
something from every question. Say in GK, if I get
any answer wrong, I learn the fact of the question
and if I got it right, I try to extract more
information from the fact of the question. I

worked to try to understand which of my section

4. Tell us about your family background and your
motivation to do CLAT.
I would like to say right at outset, that I am the
first in my family to venture into law. I come from
a middle-class family based in Bhopal, my father
is PA to Hon’ble Culture minister of M.P., my
mother is Librarian at a private school in Bhopal
and my sister is currently in 9th standard. My
school teacher motivated me to do CLAT, and she
also was a source of inspiration and motivation
during both of my prep years.
5. What was your strategy for improving
Mathematics?
Mathematics is a very important section when
exams like CLAT and AILET are concerned. My
Mathematics skills were OK OK or rather on the
good band. But in the earlier phase of my
preparation, I use to make a lot of silly mistakes
like error in calculating, not reading the question
carefully, etc. so I focused to eradicate these sorts
of mistakes by practicing more question and
being attentive and fully concentrated while
doing those questions.
6. Now that you have completed your first
trimester in Law School, share your experiences
with us.
Well I have been here for a month now but what
I could say about this law school is that is throws
a lot of challenges towards but also gives you to
chance to rise up to the opportunity. There are a
lot of activities and programs organized here and
the college gives you the opportunity to
volunteer and participate in these. You get to
learn a lot from these programs and overall it has
been a great and wonderful experience here.
What assures you success is not just your hard
work but how strongly and willingly you are
ready to come out of your comfort zone.

President inaugurates Bunker Museum in
Mumbai
President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated
underground Bunker Museum at Raj Bhavan,
Mumbai. The British-era bunker was discovered
in 2016 and has 13 rooms such as Shell Store, Gun
Shell, Cartridge Store and Central Artillery Store.
The 15,000 square feet underground bunker
museum has virtual reality booths in which visitors
can "time travel" to the 19th century.
143rd birth anniversary of freedom fighter Pingali
Venkayya
2nd of August - Pingali Venkayya, a freedom
fighter and the designer of the flag on which the
Indian national flag was based was born on this
day in 1876, near Machilipatnam in Andhra
Pradesh. Venkayya’s design for the National Flag
was finally approved by Mahatama Gandhi in a
Congress meeting in Vijayawada in 1921.
Air India’s first flight over North Pole
On the nation's Independence Day, Air India will
become the 1st Indian airline to fly over the North
Pole while connecting New Delhi and North
America. The inaugural flight over the Polar region
will take flight on August 15, 2019, and will fly from
New Delhi to San Francisco.
Dr Vikram Sarabhai's 100th Birth Anniversary
The country is celebrating the 100th birth
anniversary of scientist and innovator Dr Vikram
A Sarabhai. He is considered as the father of India's
space program. The lander of Chandrayaan-2,
India's second mission to the moon, is named
'Vikram' to honour the late Dr Vikram Sarabhai.
President hosts 'At Home' reception for Freedom
Fighters
The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind,
hosted an ‘At Home’ reception for freedom
fighters. The reception was hosted on the occasion
of the 77th anniversary of Quit India Day (August
9) at Rashtrapati Bhavan. On the occasion, the
President honoured and felicitated 78 freedom

Rajasthan Assembly passes bills against Honour
Killings and Mob Lynching
The Rajasthan Assembly passed Bills against mob
lynching and honour killing, which make the
cognisable, non–bailable and non-compoundable
offences with life imprisonment and a fine up to
Rs 5 lakh. The bill to curb honour killing also has
a provision of the death penalty for the convict.
Rajasthan has become the 2nd state after
Manipur which passed a law to curb lynching
cases.
Article 370 and Article 35A revoked from J&K by
GOI
A series of historical decisions which includes the
scrapping of Article 370 & Article 35A and the
introduction of “J&K Reorganisation Bill 2019”
were taken today during the session of Rajya
Sabha. Article 370 provided a special autonomous
status to the Indian state “Jammu & Kashmir” The
Constitution (Application to Jammu & Kashmir)
Order 2019 made by Indian President Ram Nath
Kovind was published. With this, Union
Government scrapped article 370 and 35A in J&K
and introduced a new bill named “J&K
Reorganisation Bill 2019”.
1st State to adopt Digital fingerprint and iris
scanning system
Maharashtra became the first state to adopt a
digital fingerprint and iris scanning system to aid
police investigations. The Automated Multi-modal
Biometric Identification System (AMBIS) adopted
by the Maharashtra Police will soon be replicated
across the country, with the state government
working with the National Crime Records Bureau
in New Delhi to create standards to be used by
other state police forces.
“Aadi Mahotsav” begins in Leh-Ladakh
National Tribal Festival “Aadi Mahotsav” has
begun in Leh-Ladakh. The theme of the festival
is “A celebration of the spirit of Tribal Craft,
Culture and Commerce”. The 9 day Adi Mahotsav
will showcase traditional art and handicrafts and
cultural heritage of the country.
New GI tags granted
Tawlhlohpuan: It is a medium to heavy, compactly
woven, good quality fabric from Mizoram. Mizo
Puanchei: It considered as the most colourful
among the Mizo textiles.
 Tirur betel vine: This product from Kerala is
valued both for its mild stimulant action and
medicinal properties.
Panchamirtham: It is an ‘abhishega prasadam’ of
the Murugan temple, situated in Tamil Nadu.
2nd Uday Express to run between
Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada
Indian Railway's 2nd double-decker Uday
(Utkrisht Double-Decker Air Conditioned Yatri)
Express will run between Visakhapatnam and
Vijayawada. The train would consist of 9 double-
decker coaches and 2 power cars. The trains are
primarily allocated to routes with heavy passenger
traffic. They are equipped with WiFi facility, have
striking interiors, cushioned seating, and display
screens.
Karnataka categorises Nicotine as "class A
poison"
The Karnataka government has amended
the Karnataka Poisons (Possession and Sale)
Rules 2015 and notified Nicotine as "Class A
poison". The step has been taken to strengthen the
enforcement of the ban on production and sale of
electronic cigarettes. The notification has also
ordered the suspension of all kinds of promotion of
e-cigarettes, including online promotion. This will
curb the illegal sale, smuggling of nicotine
cartridges and e-cigarettes.
Amazon's largest campus in the world
inaugurated
Amazon has opened its largest campus in the
world in Hyderabad. The campus covers 1.8
million square feet and can accommodate 15,000
workers. This is Amazon's first owned-building
outside of the US and and is also its largest tech
base outside the Seattle headquarters, which has
about 155,000 contract employees.
Super 50 programme launched in Maharashtra
Maharashtra’s Tribal Development Department in
association with the Pace Educational Trust
launched an academic programme "Super 50". The
programme has been launched for young tribal
students aspiring to be doctors and engineers. The
Super 50 programme will mentor 50 most
meritorious tribal students from the State and

prepare them for engineering and medical exams. It
will be a two-year residential programme, where
the students will be provided hostel and mess

Karnataka tops the State Rooftop Solar
Attractiveness Index
The State Rooftop Solar Attractiveness Index-
SARAL was launched during the Review Planning
and Monitoring (RPM) Meeting with States and
State Power Utilities. Karnataka has topped the
index which evaluates Indian states based on their
attractiveness for rooftop development. SARAL
has been designed collaboratively by the Ministry
of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Shakti
Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF), Associated
Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India
(ASSOCHAM) and Ernst & Young (EY).
Sadbhavana Diwas celebrated
Sadbhavana Diwas is celebrated on 20
August every year to commemorate the birth
anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv
Gandhi. This year will be the 75th Birth
Anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi. On this day national
integration, peace, love, affection and communal
harmony among all Indians are encouraged. At 40,
Mr Rajiv Gandhi was the youngest Prime Minister
of India.
India becomes the largest SO2 emitter in the
world
India is the world’s largest emitter of
anthropogenic sulphur dioxide, which is
produced from coal burning, and greatly
contributes to air pollution. According to an
analysis of a National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) data released by
environmental NGO Greenpeace. India has more
than 15% of all anthropogenic sulphur dioxide
(SO2) hotspots in the world detected by the OMI
(Ozone Monitoring Instrument) satellite.

Belief”. The day is observed to strongly condemn

individuals, including persons belonging to
religious minorities, on the basis of or in the name
of religion or belief.
U.S. labels China a ‘currency manipulator’
The United States has officially
labeled China a "currency manipulator". The US
has accused China of using yuan to gain “unfair
competitive advantage” in trade. The US took the
action as Beijing has allowed its yuan to fall below
the politically sensitive level of "seven" to the U.S.
dollar for the first time in 11 years.

Soccer body CONMEBOL suspended Lionel Messi

London named the world’s best city for students
London has named the world’s best city for
students for the 2nd consecutive year, beating
Tokyo and Melbourne that came 2nd and 3rd,
respectively, on a new worldwide ranking.
According to the rankings, India’s best student city
is Bengaluru (81st), followed by Mumbai (85th),
Delhi at 113th and Chennai at 115th, out of a total
of 120th cities in the list. The QS Best Student Cities
Ranking compiled by global education consultancy
QS Quacquarelli Symonds highlights each city’s
performance across different categories.

World Humanitarian Day is observed across the
world on August 19 to pay tribute to workers who
risk their lives in humanitarian services and to

Iceland commemorated the loss of 1st

World Biofuel Day is observed every year on 10th
of August to create awareness about the
importance of non-fossil fuels as an alternative to
conventional fossil fuels. The theme for the year
2019: Production of Bio-diesel from Used Cooking
Oil. In association with the Health Ministry, Food
Safety and Standard Authority of India has started
an initiative of "Repurpose Used Cooking Oil" and
a mobile app in which the used oil will be collected
from hotels and restaurants and sent to the
biodiesel plants for blending.
International Youth Day: 12 August
The International Youth Day 2019 is observed
across the world on 12 August with the theme
“Transforming education”. International Youth
Day 2019 will examine how Governments, young
people and youth-led and youth-focused
organizations, as well as other stakeholders, are
transforming education so that it becomes a
powerful tool to achieve the 2030 Agenda for

French inventor crosses English Channel on

French inventor Franky Zapata is 1st person in

above the water. Zapata made the 35-kilometre

Wing Commander Tarun Chaudhri has become the
first Indian Air Force pilot to perform a wingsuit

The Bill provides for reorganisation of the state of
Jammu and Kashmir into the Union Territory of
Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of
Ladakh. The Bill reorganises the state of Jammu
and Kashmir into: (i) the Union Territory of Jammu
and Kashmir with a legislature, and (ii) the Union
Territory of Ladakh without a legislature. The
Union Territory of Ladakh will comprise Kargil
and Leh districts, and the Union Territory of
Jammu and Kashmir will comprise the remaining
territories of the existing state of Jammu and
Kashmir.
The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be
administered by the President, through an
administrator appointed by him known as the
Lieutenant Governor. The Union Territory of
Ladakh will be administered by the President,
through a Lieutenant Governor appointed by him.
The Bill provides for a Legislative Assembly for the
Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The total
number of seats in the Assembly will be 107. Of
these, 24 seats will remain vacant on account of
certain areas of Jammu and Kashmir being under
the occupation of Pakistan.
The Assembly will have a term of five years, and
the Lieutenant Governor must summon the
Assembly at least once in six months.
The Legislative Assembly may make laws for any
part of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir
related to: (i) any matters specified in the State List
of the Constitution, except “Police” and “Public
Order”, and (ii) any matter in the Concurrent List
applicable to Union Territories. Further, Parliament
will have the power to make laws in relation to any
matter for the Union Territory of Jammu and
Kashmir. The Union Territory of Jammu and
Kashmir will have a Council of Ministers of not

Judges) Act, 1956. The Act fixes the maximum
number of judges in the Supreme Court at 30

Bill increases this number from 30 to 33.
The Aadhaar and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill,
2019
Passed by Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha
Introduced by the Minister of Electronics and
Information Technology, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad.
It replaces an Ordinance promulgated on March 2,
2019. It allows ‘offline verification’ of an
individual’s identity, without authentication,
through modes specified by the Unique
Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) by
regulations. The Bill makes provision to allow an
individual to voluntarily use his Aadhaar number
to establish his identity, by authentication or offline
verification. The Bill requires consent of guardian
or parent at the time of enrolling a child to obtain
an Aadhaar number, and after attaining eighteen
years of age, the child may apply for cancellation of
his Aadhaar. The Bill makes provision to allow
disclosure only for orders by High Courts (or
above). The Bill states that disclosure can only be
on directions of officers not below the rank of a
Secretary. Under the Bill complaint may be
initiated by the UIDAI against an entity in the
Aadhaar ecosystem for failure to (i) comply with
the Act or the UIDAI’s directions, and (ii) furnish
information required by the UIDAI.

The Right to Information (Amendment) Bill, 2019
Passed by Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha
Introduced by the Minister of State for Personnel,
Public Grievances and Pensions, Mr. Jitendra
Singh.
It seeks to amend the Right to Information Act,
2005. Key features of the Bill include:
Term of Information Commissioners: Under the
Act, Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and
Information Commissioners (ICs) are appointed at
the national and state level to implement the
provisions of the Act. The Act states that the CIC
and other ICs (appointed at the central and state
level) will hold office for a term of five years. The
Bill removes this provision and states that the
central government will notify the term of office for
the CIC and the ICs.
Determination of salary: The Act states that the
salary of the CIC and ICs (at the central level) will
be equivalent to the salary paid to the Chief
Election Commissioner and Election
Commissioners, respectively. Similarly, the salary
of the CIC and ICs (at the state level) will be
equivalent to the salary paid to the Election
Commissioners and the Chief Secretary to the state
government, respectively. The Bill seeks to amend
these provisions to state that the salaries,
allowances, and other terms and conditions of
service of the central and state CIC and ICs will be
determined by the central government.
Deductions in salary: The Act states that at the time
of the appointment of the CIC and ICs (at the
central and state level), if they are receiving pension
or any other retirement benefits for previous
government service, their salaries will be reduced
by an amount equal to the pension.
Previously government service included service
under: (i) the central government, (ii) state
government, (iii) corporation established under a
central or state law, and (iv) government company
owned or controlled by the central or state
government. The Bill removes these provisions.
The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on
Marriage) Bill, 2019
Passed by Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha
Introduced by the Minister of Law and Justice, Mr.
Ravi Shankar Prasad.
It replaces an Ordinance promulgated on February
21, 2019. The Bill makes all declaration of talaq,
including in written or electronic form, to be void
(i.e. not enforceable in law) and illegal. It defines

 talaq as talaq-e-biddat or any other similar form of
talaq pronounced by a Muslim man resulting in
instant and irrevocable divorce. Talaq-e-biddat
refers to the practice under Muslim personal laws
where pronouncement of the word ‘talaq’ thrice in
one sitting by a Muslim man to his wife results in
an instant and irrevocable divorce.
The Bill makes declaration of talaq a cognizable
offence, attracting up to three years’ imprisonment
with a fine. (A cognizable offence is one for which
a police officer may arrest an accused person
without warrant.) The offence will be cognizable
only if information relating to the offence is given
by: (i) the married woman (against whom talaq has
been declared), or (ii) any person related to her by
blood or marriage. The Bill provides that the
Magistrate may grant bail to the accused. The bail
may be granted only after hearing the woman
(against whom talaq has been pronounced), and if
the Magistrate is satisfied that there are reasonable
grounds for granting bail. The offence may be
compounded by the Magistrate upon the request of
the woman (against whom talaq has been
declared). Compounding refers to the procedure
where the two sides agree to stop legal
proceedings, and settle the dispute. The terms and
conditions of the compounding of the offence will
be determined by the Magistrate.
A Muslim woman against whom talaq has been
declared, is entitled to seek subsistence allowance
from her husband for herself and for her dependent
children. The amount of the allowance will be
determined by the Magistrate. A Muslim woman
against whom such talaq has been declared, is
entitled to seek custody of her minor children. The
manner of custody will be determined by the
Magistrate.
The Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment)
Bill, 2019
Passed by Rajya Sabha & Lok Sabha
Introduced by the Minister for Law and Justice, Mr.
Ravi Shankar Prasad.
It seeks to amend the Arbitration and Conciliation
Act, 1996. The Act contains provisions to deal with
domestic and international arbitration, and defines
the law for conducting conciliation proceedings.
The Bill seeks to establish an independent body
called the Arbitration Council of India (ACI) for the
promotion of arbitration, mediation, conciliation
and other alternative dispute redressal
mechanisms. The ACI will consist of a Chairperson
who is either: (i) a Judge of the Supreme Court; or
(ii) a Judge of a High Court; or (iii) Chief Justice of

a High Court; or (iv) an eminent person with expert
knowledge in conduct of arbitration. Other
members will include an eminent arbitration
practitioner, an academician with experience in
arbitration, and government appointees.
Under the 1996 Act, parties were free to appoint
arbitrators. Under the Bill, the Supreme Court and
High Courts may now designate arbitral
institutions, which parties can approach for the
appointment of arbitrators. The Bill requires that
the written claim and the defence to the claim in an
arbitration proceeding, should be completed
within six months of the appointment of the
arbitrators. The Bill provides that all details of
arbitration proceedings will be kept confidential
except for the details of the arbitral award in certain
circumstances.
The Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2019
Passed by Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha
Introduced by Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank,
Minister of Human Resource.
The Bill seeks to amend the Central Universities
Act, 2009, which establishes universities for
teaching and research in various states. The Bill
provides for the establishment of two central
universities in Andhra Pradesh to be known as the
Central University of Andhra Pradesh and the
Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh. The
Central Tribal University will take additional
measures to provide higher educational and
research facilities in tribal art, culture, and customs
primarily to the tribal population of India. Note
that the establishment of a Central University and
a Central Tribal University in the Andhra Pradesh
is obligatory under the Andhra Pradesh
Reorganisation Act, 2014.
The Consumer Protection Bill, 2019
Passed by Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha
Introduced by the Minister of Consumer Affairs,
Food and Public Distribution, Mr. Ram Vilas
Paswan. The Bill replaces the Consumer Protection
Act, 1986. Six consumer rights have been defined
in the Bill, including the right to: (i) be protected
against marketing of goods and services which are
hazardous to life and property; (ii) be informed of
the quality, quantity, potency, purity, standard and
price of goods or services; (iii) be assured of access
to a variety of goods or services at competitive
prices; and (iv) seek redressal against unfair or
restrictive trade practices.
The central government will set up a Central
Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) to

promote, protect and enforce the rights of
consumers. The CCPA may impose a penalty on a
manufacturer or an endorser of up to Rs 10 lakh
and imprisonment for up to two years for a false or
misleading advertisement. In case of a subsequent
offence, the fine may extend to Rs 50 lakh and
imprisonment of up to five years.
Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions
(CDRCs) will be set up at the district, state, and
national levels. The District CDRC will entertain
complaints where value of goods and services does
not exceed Rs one crore. The State CDRC will
entertain complaints when the value is more than
Rs one crore but does not exceed Rs 10 crore.
Complaints with value of goods and services over
Rs 10 crore will be entertained by the National
CDRC.
The Unlawful Activities (Prevention)
Amendment Bill, 2019

Introduced by the Minister of Home Affairs, Mr.
Amit Shah.
The Bill amends the Unlawful Activities
(Prevention) Act, 1967, which deals with terrorist
activities, among other things. The original Act
allows the central government to designate an
organization as a terrorist organization but now the
Bill additionally empowers the government to
designate individuals as terrorists on the same
grounds. Investigation may be conducted by. The
Bill empowers the officers of the NIA, of the rank of
Inspector or above, to investigate cases in addition
to officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendent or
Assistant Commissioner of Police or above as per
the Act. The Bill also states that if the investigation
is conducted by an officer of the National
Investigation Agency (NIA), the approval of the
Director General of NIA (instead of Director
General of Police) would be required for seizure of
such property. The Bill adds International
Convention for Suppression of Acts of Nuclear
Terrorism (2005) treaty to the list in schedule,
which provides definition of terrorist acts. This is

The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019

Introduced by the Minister for Road Transport and
Highways, Mr. Nitin Gadkari.
The Bill seeks to amend the Motor Vehicles Act,
1988 to provide for road safety. The central
government will under this Bill constitute a Motor
Vehicle Accident Fund, to provide compulsory
insurance cover to all road users in India, and will

also develop a scheme for cashless treatment of
road accident victims during golden hour- the time
period of up to one hour following a traumatic
injury, during which the likelihood of preventing
death through prompt medical care is the highest.
The Bill will increase minimum compensation for
hit and run cases as follows: (i) in case of death,
from Rs 25,000 to two lakh rupees, and (ii) in case
of grievous injury, from Rs 12,500 to Rs 50,000. It
also defines a ‘good samaritan’ as a person who
renders emergency medical or non-medical
assistance to a victim at the scene of an accident. It
allows the central government to order for recall of
motor vehicles if a defect in the vehicle may cause
damage to the environment, or the driver, or other
road users. The central government may provide a
National Road Safety Board and may also develop
a National Transportation Policy, in consultation
with state governments. The Bill increases penalties
for several offences under the Act.
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences
(Amendment) Bill, 2019
Passed by Rajya Sabha & Lok Sabha Introduced by
the Minister of Women and Child Development,
Ms. Smriti Zubin Irani. The Bill amends the
Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,
2012, which seeks to protect children from offences
such as sexual assault, sexual harassment, and
pornography. When a person commits
“penetrative sexual assault” the minimum
punishment has been increased from seven years to
ten years and if the victim is a child below the age
of 16 years, then punishment shall be between 20
years to life, with a fine. The Bill also changes the
definition of aggravated penetrative sexual assault
to include (i) assault resulting in death of child, and
(ii) assault committed during a natural calamity, or
in any similar situations of violence and it also
increases its minimum punishment from ten years
to 20 years, and the maximum punishment from
life imprisonment to death penalty. The Bill
redefines child pornography, enhances the
punishments for certain offences and adds two
other offences for storage of pornographic material
involving children.
The Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes
Bill, 2019
Passed by Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha Introduced by
the Minister of Finance, Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman. It
amend the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, the
Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992
and the Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act,
2002 and provides for a mechanism to ban

 unregulated deposit schemes and protect the
interests of depositors.
The National Medical Commission Bill, 2019
Passed by Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha
Introduced by the Minister of Health and Family
Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan.
It is to repeal the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956
and will provide for a medical education system
which will ensure: (i) availability of adequate and
high quality medical professionals, (ii) adoption of
the latest medical research by medical
professionals, (iii) periodic assessment of medical
institutions, and (iv) an effective grievance
redressal mechanism. The Bill establishes National
Medical Commission (NMC) within three years of
the passing of the Bill which shall consist 25
members appointed by central government, and
state governments will establish State Medical
Councils at the state level. Functions of the NMC
shall be to frame policies for medical institutions
and professionals, to assess the requirements of
healthcare related human resources and
infrastructure, to keep check on State Medical
Councils and to give guidelines for determination
of fees for up to 50% of the seats in private medical
institutions and deemed universities which are to
be regulated under the Bill. This Bill also proposes
to bring a uniform National Eligibility-cum-
Entrance Test for admission to under-graduate and
post-graduate and NMC will specify the manner of
conducting common counselling for admission in
all such medical institutions.
The Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2019
Passed by Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha
Introduced by the Minister of Finance, Ms. Nirmala
Sitharaman.
It amends the Companies Act, 2013. (i) The original
Act requires certain classes of public companies to
issue shares in dematerialised form only, this Bill
prescribes the same for other classes of unlisted
companies also. (ii) The 2013 Act had 81
compoundable offences punishable with fine or
imprisonment, or both, which were heard by
courts, Bill makes 16 of these offences as civil
defaults and it also amends penalties for some
other offences. (iii) Under the Bill, any unspent
annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
funds shall now be transferred to one of the funds
under Schedule 7 of the Act (e.g., PM Relief Fund)
within six months of the financial year, and
violation may attract a fine.

The Bill repeals 68 Acts in whole and makes some
minor amendments to two other laws. It has
completely repealed (revoked or annulled) 68 laws
listed in the First Schedule of the Bill including the
Beedi Workers Welfare Fund Act, 1976, and the
Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2001. It has also
made some changes, which relate to substitution of
certain words, by amending the Income Tax Act,
1961, and the India Institutes of Management Act,
2017.

Sushil Chandra Shrivastava & Anr. Vs State of
Uttar Pradesh & Ors.
Allahabad High Court has imposed complete
prohibition on use of DJs in the state and has asked
the state government to issue a toll-free number,
dedicated to registering complaints against illegal
use of loudspeakers. Petition was filed against use
of loudspeakers in residential areas regardless of
time, as it is a grave violation of Rule 5 of the Noise
Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.
Supreme Court has already issued guidelines to

case, stating that right to peaceful environment is
both a human as well as fundamental right.
Punjab & Haryana High Court has banned use of
loudspeakers without prior permission.
Supreme Court has decriminalized adultery in
Jammu & Kashmir by saying that Section 497 of
Ranbir Penal Code is Unconstitutional.
Karnataka High Court bench of Chief Justice
Abhay Oka and Justice Mohammad Nawaz has
asked the Tree Authority constituted under the
Karnataka Preservation of Trees Act, 1976 and Tree
Rules, to start tree census in Bengaluru. This census
shall be done now for the first time in 43 years,
although this was mandated under the law of 1976.
Bombay High Court has refused to provide any
relief to Partheban Durai, a Malaysian, who
smuggled human embryos into India by
misrepresenting them to Malaysian authorities as
stem cells.
Karnataka High Court has held that bad condition
of roads and footpaths, having potholes on road is
against Fundamental Right guaranteed under

Sudan declares Right to internet as fundamental
right in its interim Constitution
2018 Revolution of Sudan was about a series of
demonstrations that broke out due to deterioration
of economic conditions and soaring cost of living in
the country. The protests in no time took the face of
demands seeking civilian rule, forcing the long-
standing President Omar al-Bashir to bow out.
Currently, the country is being governed by the
Transitional Military Council (TMC) which has,
together with the political alliance of Forces of
Freedom and Change (FFC), adopted an interim
Constitution, the Constitutional Charter for the
2019 Transitional Period. This document will
replace Sudan's 2005 Transitional Constitution and
draw an outline of the interim government which

Enforcement of the Decision and Outcomes:
-Triple Talaq is no longer legal throughout India.
- Following the Judgement, The government introduced
a bill seeking to criminalize the instant triple talaq. Lok
Sabha passed this bill in Dec 2017 but later failed before
the Rajya Sabha in Aug 2018.
- Month later, an ordinance was approved stating that
instant triple talaq is a punishable offence with 3 year jail
term.
Significance of the case :
- It was a historic judgement which advances the
essential constitutional values of equality, dignity and
secularism.
- Many Muslim women have challenged triple talaq in
courts previously but this was the first time a woman
challenged on the basis that her fundamental rights were
violated.
Triple Talaq Bill, 2019:
Aim of the Bill- Providing Protection to Muslim women
against instant divorce.
About the Bill-
-Replaces an Ordinance promulgated on 21st February,
2019
- Muslim Women (Protection Right on Marriage) or
Triple Talaq Bill was presented in Lok Sabha on 21st
June, 2019 as the earlier bill remained pending in Rajya
Sabha.
-Drawn by a group led by Union Minister Rajnath Singh.
-Presented in the Lok Sabha by Minister of Law and
Justice- Ravi Shankar
-Divorcing through instant Triple Talaq is illegal, void
and attracts a jail term of 3years for the husband.
- Declares instant talaq a cognizable offence ( one for
which a police officer may arrest an accused person
without warrant)
-A provision for bail to the accused is also promulgated
in which the majistrate is allowed to grant bail after
hearing the wife.
- A Muslim woman is entitled to seek subsistence
allowance from her husband and for her dependent
children. The amount is determined by the majistrate.
-A Muslim woman against whom talaq has been
declared is entitled to seek custody of her minor
children. The manner of the custody will be determined
by the magistrate.
Law:
- Bill passed by Lok Sabha on 25th July,2019.
-Rajya Sabha gave it's assent. Passed the bill with
99votes in favor and 84 against on 30th July,2019.
-Later, President Ram Bath Kovind gave assent to the
triple talaq Bill making it a law
Challenged:
Samastha Kerala Jamiathul Ulama, a religious
organization of the Sunni Muslim challenged the
constitutionally of the Muslim Women (Protection of
Rights on Marriage) Act 2019. The petetion was filed a
day after President gave assent to the triple talaq on 31st
July. The petition states that the law, passes by the
Parliament is 'class specific to muslims' and violation of
Article 14; 15; 21 of the Constitution.

What is Article 370?
Article 370, and was included in the constitution on 17
October, 1949 exempted the state of J&K from Indian
Constitution (except Article 1 and 370 itself) and
permitted the state to draft it's own, thereby giving it an
"autonomous state " power.

The Indian Parliament needed the state government
concurrence for applying all other laws.
A number of other states enjoy special status under
Article 371 (from 371'A' to 371'I')
Article 370 is the first article of Part 12 of constitution,
whose heading is "Temporary, Transitional and Special
Provisions." In India’s acceptance to IOA, Lord
Mountbatten had stated that as soon as Law and Order
would be restored in Kashmir, the question of "The state's
accession will be settled by a reference to the people.
In 2018, The Supreme Court said that despite the head
note reading "Temporary ", Article 370 is not temporary.
How the Instrument of Accession (IOA) did comes into
play?
Raja Hari Singh, former ruler of J&K had initially decided
to remain independent under Indian Independence Act
but following an invasion from Pathan Tribesmen and
Army men from Pakistan. He took the help of India which
in turn sought the accession of Kashmir to India.
Maharaja Hari Singh signed the IOA on 26 October, 1947
and Governor General Lord Mountbatten accepted it on
27 October, 1947.
What is Article 35A?
Article 35A stems from Article 370, having been
introduced through a Presidential Order in 1954. It
empowers the J&K legislature to define the state’s
permanent residents and their special rights and
privileges.
It disallows people from outside the state from

permanently or avail state-sponsored scholarship
scheme. All the rights of a women is diluted if she marries
a person from any other part of India other than Jammy

Under Article 35A, it’s mentioned that of a woman
marries a person from Pakistan, she will get citizenship of
J&K and will enjoy all the rights and privileges.
Situation in Kashmir?
Section 144 was enacted prior to the reorganisation bill.

Highlights of Reorganisation Bill -
On 6August, 2019 President Ram Nath Kovind on the
recommendation of Parliament declared abrogation of
Article 370 and 35A of the constitution. All provisions of
Indian Constitution shall now be applicable to Jammu
and Kashmir.
Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah also moved a bill to
bifurcate The State into 2 Union Territories - proposing
J&K to be a UT with a state legislature and Ladakh as a
UT without a Legislature.
Passing this bill will divide the state of Jammu and
Kashmir into two federal (also known as Union)
territories. One will be called Jammu and Kashmir, which
will have a state legislature, the other is Kazakh which
will be ruled directly from New Delhi.
In the Upper house of Parliament 125were in favour and
61were against the bill.
In the Lower house of Parliament bill was revoked with
351votes in favour and 72 against.

KEY Differences between important concepts
1. Strict Liability and Absolute Liability
(a) The rule of strict liability and absolute liability
apply in cases where a dangerous or
hazardous thing escapes due to no fault of the
owner and the owner shall be held liable for
damages caused due to such escape. In cases
of strict liability the defenses of (i) fault or
consent of the claimant; (ii) act of god; (iii)
statutory authority; (iv) act of third party are
permitted. However in cases of absolute
liability, no defenses are permitted.
(b) The rule of strict liability was framed in the
19th century in the U.K. courts whereas the
rule of absolute liability has its origin in India
in the Oleum gas leak case (M.C. Mehta v. Union
of India).
(c) The rule of absolute liability is more of an
improvement on strict liability rule to make
the age old rule suitable for the present
situation with lots of industries of hazardous
substances emerging, without adequate
safeguards or protection.
2. Servant and Independent Contractor
(a) The master has complete control over the
work of a servant that is all elements including
the mode and method of performing the task,
while in case of an independent contractor; the
employer has limited control over his work.
The employer only has control over the final
work product of the independent contractor.
He does not have control over the method and
technique/ style of carrying out the work.
(b) A master-servant relationship is that of a
contract of service while the relationship of the
employer with the independent contractor is
that of a contract for service.
(c) The master is liable for the actions of the
servant during the course of employment but
the employer is not liable for the actions of an
independent contractor.
(d) A contract of service (master-servant
relationship) is usually used in cases where

of service and are entitled to benefits under
the various labour statutes. However,
independent contractors often referred to as
consultants have contracts for services and are
not entitled to benefits under the labour
statutes.
3. Libel and Slander
(a) Libel is the publication in print (including
pictures), writing or broadcast through radio,
television or film of any false and defamatory
statement or information about a person
which will do harm to that person or his/her
reputation, by tending to bring the target into
ridicule, hatred, scorn or contempt of others.
On the other hand, Slander is any false and
defamatory statement that is made orally or
through gestures about a person which will do
harm to that person or his/her reputation, by
tending to bring the target into ridicule,
hatred, scorn or contempt of others.
(b) Libel is publication of a defamatory statement
in a tangible form while slander is oral and
therefore intangible.
(c) In cases of slander other than slander per se
(slander that is on the face of it defamatory e.g.
Relating to the chastity of a woman), actual
damages suffered by the person have to be
proven; however there is no such requirement
in cases of libel.
(d) For example when a person wrongly accuses
another of a person of being a thief in front of

3. Obiter Dictum – Comment or opinion given by

# Obiter dictum is the Latin phrase meaning "by the
way”, that is, a remark in a judgment that is "said
in passing". It is a concept derived from English
common law, whereby a judgment comprises only
two elements: ratio decidendi and obiter dicta. For
the purposes of judicial precedent, ratio decidendi
is binding, whereas obiter dicta are persuasive
only. It is usually in the form of Incidental remarks,
observations, or opinions articulated by a judge.
4. Ration Decidendi – reason behind a judicial
decision
# Ratio decidendi is a Latin phrase meaning "the
reason" or "the rationale for the decision". The ratio
decidendi is "the point in a case that determines the
judgement" or "the principle that the case
establishes". As an example, the ratio in Donoghue
v. Stevenson would be that a person owes a duty of
care to those who he can reasonably foresee will be
affected by his actions.

How to start Mathematics

Dear Students,

As you know mathematics is a section in your CLAT exam that gives a sure score in exam and also gives you an edge
to you as compare to other candidates but many candidates feel difficult to start math’s preparation.

The first thing before start preparation you should know about Quantitative Aptitude section. It is a form of math’s
with a good blend of reasoning skills. Here your reasoning ability play a very significant role in Quantitative
Aptitude.

In your CLAT & AILET exam you have a time limit and you have a limited time for solving quantitative aptitude, so
if you practice well then you can solve all questions timely.

For many students, its starting seems very difficult, so best point from where you can start math’s is your classroom.
First understand all concepts and examples in the class and then repeat at least two times from yourself and then try
new question from your study material. You can set a number for number of question for each topic. It will vary from
topic to topic for few important topics it is 50 – 60 and for few topics it is 30 – 40. But on an average it is 40-50 questions
per topic.

After completion of topic, attempt a Topic test so you can understand how much you have learned. In topic test you
can attempt approximately 50% of the total test then meaning is you understood topic but it need practice for 100%.

Repeat this process for each topic. In 45 days you will find that you have completed 4-5 important topics.
The second thing you will face difficulty in mock test. In mock test first you should know time division for each
subject. For maths you have 20-23 minutes in each CLAT Mock and 10-12 minutes in AILET mock.

In every CLAT mock you have to give 20- 23 minutes for Quantitative Aptitude section even you are solving only 4-
5 question but time is constant in each mock. When you regularly follow time limit rule you will find your time in each
mock is constant but your number of question are increasing mock by mock.

 Facts: Shariq and Mudit were involved in a popular extremist movement in Kazakhstan called Noor-e-Salaam. Shariq was
an Afghan national while Muditwas an Indian citizen but had taken up citizenship of Kazakhstan a decade ago when he
joined the movement. However, after serving in the movement for a considerable time, they decided to branch out and take
up assignments to inflict violence, independent of Noor-e-Salaam.

Kulraj was a member of the National Sadharan Party (NSP). He was against the ruling Government and gave a flurry of
hate speeches against the Government. Some of the party-workers, on his provocation and planning, vandalized some
Government offices and attacked a convoy where the Prime Minister of India was also there. Kulraj was not satisfied with
the protests and to bring downthe credibility of the Government, he hired the services of Shariq and Mudit to wage war
against India.

Shariq and Mudit came to India with three other accomplices and started carrying out bomb blasts in major cities. They
kept getting out of the clutches of the police because Kulraj had a lot of influential connections, that helped them escape
everytime.

When NSP’s veteran party leader, Munshiram got wind of Kulraj’s actions, he was horrified and told him to leave the party
immediately and stop the madness.Kulraj told Munshiram that he had hacked into the party’s confidential e-mail accounts
and would manipulate them to malign the NSP if Munshiram so much as even opens his mouth. Realizing Munshiram’s
hapless position, even Shariq and Mudit began to threaten Munshiram with dire consequences if he did not pay themlkahs
of rupees every month. They started using this money for funding the terrorist activities.

During this planning, Shariq and Mudit went to Rifle 906 Ltd., a shop selling arms and ammunition and forcibly acquired a
