Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

The degree that I am seeking is Speech Pathology. I must pass this exam in order to take

the required courses in the Speech Pathology program at Nevada State College (NSC). The

Praxis Core Exam is not required to be admitted into the program; however, it is necessary to

pass the exam prior to taking program focused courses and to take the practicum that typically

takes place towards the last semester before graduating. I am planning on taking the full Praxis

Core Exam this upcoming October if possible.

Exam Preparation

Prior to taking the Praxis Core practice tests, I reviewed the requirements to pass each

section and skimmed the practice questions in the materials provided by ETS. Last July, I passed

the ParaPro exam with a high score, and I noticed that the Praxis Core Exam was similar so I did

not study as much before taking the practice tests. I made sure to prepare my work area before

working on the practice tests such as maintaining a quiet environment without any distractions,

getting scratch paper, and a writing utensil.

Exam Results

My exam results were not what I expected. In Reading, I scored in the 63% range, which

means I need improvement in order to pass the Reading Section in the official Praxis Core Exam.

In Writing, I scored 78%, which means I am borderline to passing when I take the official Praxis

Core Exam. In Math, I scored 85%, which means that I am likely to pass when I take the Math

section of the official Praxis Core Exam.

Future Exam Preparation

3

In order to pass the official Praxis Core exam, I will prepare by fully reviewing the

practice materials on the ETS website. While completing the practice tests, my lowest score was

in the Reading section which is usually my best subject when it comes to exams. This was due

mainly to a lack of judgment as I took this practice test late at night in comparison to the other

sections (Writing and Math) which I completed earlier in the day after getting proper rest. So,

when I take the official Praxis Core exam, I will make sure I eat and sleep prior to going to the

testing center, as well as review my previous tests to make sure I can improve on the areas that I

may need more work on. Also, I will study the various formulas and concepts from the Math

section since some of them are difficult to remember. I am in contact with other students that will

take the Praxis Core exam relatively soon, so I will try to make a study group with them to

review and discuss concepts that may need more elaboration. Overall, I am confident in my

ability to pass the exam because I know what I must study and how I can prepare myself to

achieve a passing score.
