It’s Pizza Time

For this project, we decided to survey a random sample of 50 students on how many

slices of Main Street Pizza they ate in one sitting. We asked a variety of students at random from

different grade levels as well. We found that most commonly students eat around 3 pieces of

pizza per sitting.

In figuring out our five number summary, we found that the standard deviation was 1.25,

the mean was 2.94, and the 68%, 95%, and 99.7% intervals were 1.69-4.19, 0.44-5.44, and

-0.81-6.69. We were then constructed a histogram to further illustrate our data, and found that
the data had a mostly normal distribution and is for the most part mound shaped symmetrical, but

obviously we couldn’t have a perfect set of data for such a histogram. The histogram pictured

above shows our 50 data points, and the frequency of each response.

We then gave our own data points of 2 and 5. We then used the empirical formula to

figure out the intervals of 68%, 95%, and 99.7%, which is listed previously. We then computed

the z-score for both of our inputs, and found that x ≤ 2 = .2266, x ≤ 5 = .9505, and then the

probability of someone answering greater than us which was x ≥ 2 = .9599, x ≥ 5 = .2578, and

then finally found the probability of someone picking in between our responses which was

2 ≤ x ≤ 5 = .9222. We then calculated the z-score using the central limit theorem and found that

0% will be below 2, and that 100% will be below 5. As for the final question on the 3% raw data

value of less or more is 0 and 6.
