HIA advocates voluntary blood donation, donors increase to 7%

With a total of 112 donors for this school year, the grade school and high school
Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Holy Infant Academy (HIA) spearheaded their
annual bloodletting activity last July 27, inside the school’s campus.
More donors were recorded to attend this year than the past school years, with
a significant increase of 7.69%, compared to last year’s attendance of 104.
Anchored with the theme “Dugong HIAn: Dugtong Buhay para sa mga
KababaHIAn”, the said activity was in support for the Republic Act No. 7719, also
known as the National Blood Services Act of 1994, which promotes voluntary blood
donation to provide sufficient supply of safe blood and to regulate blood banks.
Anyone was open to donate blood and most of the participants were composed
of the teaching and non-teaching staff of HIA, parents who agreed to join, and
everyone who volunteered to participate.
“Masaya ako kahit sa ganitong paraan lang ako makatulong sa mga
nangangailangan. Sana mas marami pa ang ma-encourage sa pagbibigay ng dugo,
kasi para sa magandang rason naman ‘to,” said by one of the parents who donated.
Led by the Oriental Mindoro Blood Council and Calapan City Blood Council,
together with Dr. Jonathan Leviste and other team of doctors, they managed the
flow of the activity all throughout half of the day.
