✪ LIVER FUNCTION: In Acute.viral hepatitis, cytoplasmic membrane is damaged causing ALT-leak which peaks at more than 15-100 times upper limit. Other causes: MI, IM, many drugs, renal/pulmo.infarct,
convulsions. PTime is prolonged if liver cell mass is greatly reduced and Hyperbilirubinemia may be absent if only a part of biliary system is involved. A 2-4 fold physiological rise in bilirubin is observed after 12-
24 hrs.fast. CAUTION: A metabolite of O-desmethylnaproxen, has shown spurious elevation in Total Bilirubin assay Nafila,A.R.,et al; Clin Biochem 42(2009) 129-131
