Lab 11: Population Growth

Exponential growth

1. If b=m then the population would be 7,257,064 after twenty generations

2. N will increase to 6.12 e + 10 if b = 2.25 and m = 0.5

3. The population decreases as time goes by if b = 1 and m = 1.2

Logistic Growth

g) it takes 15 generations for the population to reach K (it’s carrying capacity.)

h) N increases by if b = 2.0

i) If b’ and m’ = 0, then the curve

k) If b= 3.25 and m=0.05 and b’ and m’ = their original values (-0.01; 0.005) then N

l) if b = 2.75 and m = 0.05 and b’ and m’ = their original values (-0.01; 0.005) then N

Footprint

a) My ecological footprint is 4.7 hectares

b) The average footprint for people in the U.S. is 2.75 hectares

c) We would need 2.8 earths to support the world population if everyone lived like me

Aboriginal Australian

a) My ecological footprint is now 1.4 hectares

b) Cropland makes up the largest portion of my ecological footprint

c) 0.8 earths would be needed if we lived like aboriginal australians.
