    3 Trade Unions-
    1. Northern Railway men’s union- All India Railway Men’s Fedration affiliated with
    HMS
    2. Uttariya Railway Majdoor union- National Federation of Railway Man(affiliated
    with INTUC)
    3. Uttar Railway Karamchari Union- Bhartiya Railway Majdoor Sangh- affiliated
    with Bhartiya Majdoor Sangh

    Political Support to Northern Railway men’s Union is from CITU – CPM & AITUC-
    CPI

    1800 employees are there and all are covered in ID Act


    No contract Labour in railways
    More than 200 labour laws are applicable

    3 main strikes after Independence on All India level


    1960- Not for helding Pay Commission and not for controlling inflation. To control
    all this, in 1966 a scheme was given named Joint Consultative Machinery (JCM)
    1968- 1 day token strike was held because of failure of JCM
    1974- A major strike was held and the main demand was BONUS. This strike last for
    21 days which started at 8th May and ended at 29th May
    Then a coordination committee was formed which negotiated with the
    government and the dispute was settled

    EFFECT OF THIS STRIKE: more than 50,000 employees were retrenched. And in
    june 1975, an emergency was declared for 17 months.
