Mobberley Parish Council
The next two meetings of Mobberley Parish Council will
be held at 7.30pm at the Rajar Building on Monday 7th
October and 4th November.
Please feel free to attend this meeting; however, if you wish to
ask any questions on the evening, please submit them in
writing to the Clerk at least three clear working days before
the date of the meeting.
Change at Mobberley Parish Councillors
It is with regret that we have received letters of resignation from two long standing
Parish Councillors. Councillor Heidi Gilks joined the Parish Council on 7th March
2011 and for many years has served as the Chairlady of the Planning Committee.
Councillor Ian Norbury joined the Parish Council in May 2014 and has been involved
with the Village Matters, has served on the Planning Committee and has assisted on
many occasions whenever help is required. Both Councillors with very much be
missed on the Parish Council and we would sincerely like to thank them both for all
their hard work and commitment over the past years.
We have however, been fortunate to co-opt Anne Holloway on to the Parish Council
at our September meeting. Councillor Holloway is currently very involved with the
Mobberley Poppies which have been highlighted in previous editions of the
newsletter. Along with a number of residents she aims to make a display around the
statue of the Soldier in front of the Victory Hall, alongside a display around the War
Memorial at St. Wilfrids Church for Remembrance Day.
There are currently two vacancies on Mobberley Parish Council. If you think you
may be interested in serving on the Parish Council, please contact the Clerk (details
on the front cover) for more details.
Mobberley Civic Service
Each year, Mobberley Parish Council holds their
Civic Service which is a service where residents are
thanked for their commitment to the village.

1st Mobberley Guides
Welcome to a new year of Girlguiding fun at 1st Mobberley
Guides! We have bags of activities planned for the girls to
suit all tastes and interests.
This term we are welcoming 4 new Guides, who have all transferred over from
Brownie units in Mobberley and Knutsford. The topics we are going to focus are
Know Myself, Take Action and Skills for my Future. We will participate in the Future
Girl Acts programme, a nationwide Girlguiding initiative where we will learn about
plastic pollution and make a pledge to reduce our carbon footprint.
We are also proud to participate in the Comfort Bag scheme, which has so far con-
tributed to making 10,000 comfort bags for people in times of need at local hospitals.
If you are able to donate any travel-size toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner,
shower gel/soap, deodorant, toothpaste, tissues, pens & notepads, please contact us
at 1stmobberleyguides@gmail.com.
Finally, we are looking forward to honing our musical skills and knowledge of other
cultures through “an African Christmas” drumming workshop that tells the story of an
African girl and her family as they celebrate Christmas in their unique way. With
djembes, percussions, accordion, singing, masks and Boomwhackers, this promises
to be so much fun!
Brownies are excited to be welcoming Rachel Haughton to their unit as a new leader.
She has been running the Rainbows previously but has moved up to Brownies with
her daughter Bobbi. We are sad to see Caroline Smith leave after almost 5 years
with us but she will continue to act as our treasurer and we are sure we’ll see her
around. We’d like to thank Caroline for all her hard work over the years and wish her
well with her latest venture in her career.
Brownies are excited to be taking part in this year’s Scarecrow competition as judges
and will be making our own contribution which will not be entered in the competition.
We are focusing on the festivals this term with Halloween, Bonfire night and Christ-
mas all looming.
Mobberley Rainbows are pleased to welcome a whole new leadership team to the
unit. Lil Norbury has taken over as leader and will be supported by Sadie Sherran.
The unit will be concentrating on lots of badge work this term, in particularly their
cupcake badge.
If you have a daughter aged between 5 and 14 years old who would be interested in
joining any of the Girlguide units please contact:

MOBBERLEY WOMEN’S CONSERVATIVES
The Parish Council constantly receive complaints about dog fouling in the
village. Please, please clear up after your pet. It gives all dog owners a
bad name which is unfair as many do clear up. The Cheshire East Dog
Warden is aware of the problem and residents caught letting their pets
foul WILL face prosecution and WILL be fined.

In last month's newsletter we reprinted a letter from the Roth family, evacuees to
Sunnybank Farm in Lady Lady Lane in 1939. The School Registers and Log Books
give some interesting insights into life in Mobberley during WW2. When war was de-
clared in September 1939 the village took in a number of evacuees (mainly from
Stretford Road and St Bride's schools in Manchester). The Mobberley Register
didn't include 'official' refugees as they remained the responsibility of their
previous schools and were taught separately in the afternoon by their own
teachers. Mobberley's children were taught in the mornings. Seventeen 'unofficial'
refugees are listed where families took in children of relatives, or where local
children now couldn't get to Egerton school in Knutsford due to transport concerns.
The early fears of bombing raids over Manchester were premature and the first air
raid sirens were not recorded until August 1940. These lasted on and off until the
middle of 1942. Further intakes of evacuees are recorded in September 1940 and
January 1941 as these children were now taught alongside those from Mobberley.
There was then a lull until in July and November 1944 when fifty-six evacuees from
London arrived as a result of the attacks by the German V1 flying bombs and V2
rockets.
The records aren't complete and it's not clear when all the children returned home
although those who, during the war, reached the age of 14 (at which they
completed their junior school education) did so at that point.
Below are extracts from the School Log Book, written by the Headmasters who took
charge throughout the six years.

Mobberley Pre-School
“A great place to play, dream,
learn and grow.”
Term is nearly over as I write this and we ready ourselves to say bye to our older
children who are off on a new adventure at their schools. We will miss you. We
will however fill the rest of the term will lots of fun. We enjoyed our visit from
Animal Intuition and some of our children held a friendly spider called Incy. As
the weather had improved we managed to hold our very own Mini Glastonbury.
We built our own Space rocket to celebrate 50 since the moon landing and have
Mini beasts and fairy tale themed weeks.
We wish all our children a safe and happy summer break and look forward to
seeing our little ones back and ready to meet some new friends that join us in
September 2019. There are still places available.
Good luck to our school leavers, have fun and we will miss you x
Our local Co-op has kindly putting Mobberley Preschool as one of their local
charities for this year coming. If you have a Co-op card you can select us as your
chosen charity. We are raising funds for new equipment to teach the children
about road safety.
We are OFSTED registered providing term time sessions for children from 2 years of age.
Our Pre-School is also a registered charity that has served the community for nearly 50
years and is managed by a parent committee.

MOBBERLEY METHODIST CHURCH, FAULKNERS LANE
Mobberley a church that is really coming alive!
At Mobberley we have a dream of becoming a church that is really at the heart of the
community, and to this end we have launched some new things this last while.
Crew Youth Nights - this is a once a month youth night for teenagers in our village,
the first event was literally one where spaghetti was flying, as we built towers with
marshmallows and spaghetti, so join us again , Friday 11th October form 6pm to
9pm.
Joshua mean breakfasts - we also launched a mess breakfast, as a place to just
stop and make friends. This will also be a monthly gathering on the second Saturday
@ 8.30am.
Amazing Women, movement - this will launch this week, so more about that later,
but I am sure this will be a really awesome space for ladies to connect.
In October we will also be continuing our very popular Bible Study on the book of
Revelation, and the ned times, this will begin on 9th October in the evening. Watch
Facebook for further details.
On a sad note, one of our incredibly inspirational older members passed away. John
Davies was living at Sunrise, and had been a preacher in the church for 60 years.
Our prayers for his wife Margaret in this difficult time
As the days get shorter and colder, remember that there is always warmth in the
Methodist church, the warmth of true friendship, and fellowship with the Lord.
Blessings
Rev Scott
