ACTIVITY # 4

Occurence, Frequency and Identification of Soil Organisms in Farm

I. Introduction

Soil Organisms are very important creatures on Earth. Their presence in the soil contribute to soil
fertility as they leave their residues after decomposition. These organisms have direct relationship to
organic matter content of the soil. It means the higher their number, the higher also the organic matter
content of our soil. This activity therefore provides us the opportunity to be familiar with the occurence,
frequency, and identity them.

II. Methodology

Step 1:

Mark 3 sites on your farm. Each site must have a distance of 100 m from each other. In each site,
measure a 1 meter X 1 meter square. Gather data inside the 1 meter quadrant.

Step 2:

Identify the weeds growing with photodocumentation. Then identify the organisms within the 4 inches
deep. Tabulate using the matrix and discuss.
