Study Plan
A study plan is an organized schedule that provides an outline of time and goals for a
student’s exam preparation. As a CMA student, you should also develop a study plan
where you can block off days and times in their calendar dedicated to studying.
Creating a study plan not only helps you become more organized, but it also holds
you accountable for your own learning outcomes. If you are studying using online
classes, a study plan is even more important for your success, since you need to have
self- discipline and determination to complete your studies without the constant
reminders of an instructor.
If you create a personalized study plan, you should first evaluate your current
schedule and time management. Find days when you have fewer personal
commitments and can create some study time. Remember, each student studies
differently, so the amount of time you need to study will differ from the time your
friends devote to studying. Some students find that studying nightly for thirty
minutes is more realistic than studying a few times a week for a longer period of time.
So, don’t panic if your friends seem to study for longer hours or have a different
schedule than yours.
You’ll have to identify your learning goals for each study session in order to
maximize these scheduled study times. Determine why you are studying, and
develop a plan that can help you achieve those goals. Take into consideration
upcoming tests and other commitments that you may have. Lastly, your study plan
should be reasonable that you can actually follow. Although you must set aside
enough time in your schedule dedicated to your studies, blocking off five hours with
no break will set you up for failure.
Given below are sample study plans for Foundations, Inter, and Final level CMA
preparation for aspirants who are working or studying full time. You can use these
plans as they are or make changes according to your available time.

CMA Study Plan for students
If you are a full-time student preparing for the CMA examinations, you have ample
time to study and still relax every day. However, you should still be careful about
how you spend your time and keep track of your activities.
Given below is a sample study plan that you as a full-time student can modify as
per their requirements. We would advise you to print the schedule and stick it at a
place where you can see it right after you wake up.

Since there are only 4 subjects in CMA Foundation, after you complete the first 60
days, the remaining time can be used as you deem fit for revision and study. This
includes the second as well as the third revision.

The first revision for CMA Inter is the most important part (out of the three
revision periods that you shall be following). If you can make the most out of those
60 days when it comes to studying and preparing for the examinations, we can
guarantee you that the next 30 days (including the second and third revisions)
will be much easier for you.
Given below is a sample study plan which assumes that you are going to appear
for both CMA Inter Group 1 and CMA Inter Group 2 at once; however, if that is
not the case, then you can simply double your efforts on either group (but make
sure that you do not reduce the number of study hours every day!)

Once again, a sample study plan has been included below. Feel free to edit or
modify this (entirely, if you need to) and make sure that you are getting the most
out of every single day that passes by.

1. Identify the topics in Paper-6 (Law and Ethics) that are particularly difficult
and check their weightage using your CMA Scanners. If those topics are not
high-value chapters, feel free to skip them. Use this time instead to revise
what you have already learned and master your knowledge of the same.
2. In papers or subjects that include both theory as well as numerical questions
like Paper-8 (Cost Accounting), focus on the numerical questions first when
revising them. Theory must be revised in the end so it becomes more recent
to your examination dates and you can remember the same.
3. By now, you must have gotten a thorough idea of your Study Material (if not,
please revise it once more). So, incorporate MTPs, RTPs, and PTPs to your
revision. Generally, MTPs are the most accurate in terms of question
difficulty, but RTPs and PTPs can introduce you to new perspectives on
questions.
4. Revise theory of chapters at least once a day. It might require longer hours
from your end, but it’s vital that you do NOT skip them or underestimate the
content. It does not take long for even the best student to forget what they
have learned.

The first revision is arguably the most important part of your entire CMA final
study plan, because this is where you have (and devote) the maximum amount of
time in both clearing your concepts as well as strengthening your understanding
of the fundamentals. Given below is a sample study plan that assumes that you
are appearing for both groups (CMA Final Group 1 and CMA Final Group 2) at
once. If you are only appearing for only 1 group, revise your schedule accordingly.

This is simply a sample plan for CMA Final. Please keep in mind the following
points when you create your own or modify this one:
1. It’s OK to only study 2 papers or subjects per day. Which 2? You can choose
them as you want. Just don’t choose 2 theory-based subjects or you might get
bored.
2. Some subjects might be easy for you; study those AFTER you are done with
the harder subjects for the day.
3. If you are a morning person, use the mornings to study new concepts and
focus on the hardest parts of your subjects. Revise those concepts at the
afternoon and touch the easier chapters (study or revise them) during the
evenings when you are tired and don’t have as much motivation. If you are
an evening person, reverse the order.
4. You must complete 12 hours of study every day; what subjects you wish to
study during this time is completely up to you. Just make sure to track your
progress so that you know you are not wasting your time.
5. We at SuperProfs just want to see you succeed. For us, that’s all that matters;
if you come up with a study plan that is completely different from what we
have suggested here, that is fine as long it helps you get to your goal.

You get the point. Whatever you seem to have difficulty recalling (or applying, in
the case of numerical questions) must be a priority for your 2nd revision.

Nevertheless, keep those points in mind when you are putting the final touches to
your examination preparation:
1. Focus on your strong points first; it is too late to try and learn anything new
(please don’t try).
2. Isolate yourself from all possible distractions; the last few days before an
examination can make or break your examination performance. As a CMA
Final student, you probably already know this, but just a gentle reminder.
3. Revise theory parts at least once day; this goes without saying.
4. Spend at least 3 hours a day solving questions from MTPs, RTPs, and PTPs.
Start with PTPs, move on to RTPs, and finalize your revision with MTPs.
5. Usually PTPs and RTPs tend to be more challenging than MTPs (which are
almost always on the same level as the actual examination paper), but it helps
you to be exposed to all kinds of questions from those 3 sources so you can be
better prepared for the examination.
