I am Audrain Weaver, and I am twenty-two years old. For the past 11
years I have always wanted to pursue being a teacher. I started my youth ministry degree in 2016 but quickly learned that my passion is still teaching. Now I am enrolled at Hacc Lancaster Campus. There are many reasons why I love teaching. When you're a teacher you never stop learning, and I find that it's important to always allow yourself to keep discovering, and or fixing things. I love working with children, my parents always told me ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be a teacher. I love meeting all kids, no matter their ethnicity, skill level, or family background. Knowing we all have different needs, as well as needing them met in different ways. When I was a young girl in 5th grade, I struggled a lot with mathematics, and reading. My personal life was not the best, and I wasn’t focused on school in any capacity. My teacher noticed that I was declining rapidly, so she stepped in. Mrs. Snyder was her name, she took the time to tutor me until I was comfortable with the material, as well as give me life coping skills. The words of encouragement she spoke over me daily will remain with me forever. She always told me “Audrian you’re smart, important, a world changer, and that she is proud.” These words helped, and motivated me to keep going and improving to reach my goal to make it to the academic level to continue my pursuit of teaching. As an African American female in my hometown, I am one of few. The diversity in the schools are lacking, and diversity is a subject matter that will always need to be taught on and will always be here. I would like to become a teacher to help teach diversity and bring it to the schools as well. I have never had an African American teacher male, or female. I am a school age program coordinator at an Early Learning Center, where I constantly get reminded why I want to become a teacher. Not only to teach them logistics, but to help them with everyday life, be a listening ear, and someone who believes, and encourages them.
