Guide under Course Navigation, Week Six. (You will be held responsible for using the correct format in typing your
cover letter and resumes).
Assignment 11 Instructions:
Your assignment MUST be one document
Remember the six C's of effective communication when composing your documents
o Use the you approach – avoid using first (i.e.: I, my, me) and second (i.e.: we, our) person
You will have one file saved as Student Last Name Assignment 11.
Cover Letter
Communication Situation:
Review the information you have collected about yourself, an advertised position, and the employer. Also review your
keywords list and your résumé master list.
Prepare a cover letter to accompany a resume for an advertised job you will be qualified for upon earning your
degree (provide the advertisement information and source-you may copy/paste this information as the first page of
your assignment document [do NOT provide the link to an online advertisement--provide the advertisement
details]) and direct the letter to the employer/job you identified. Apply the CBO approach and the persuasive
strategy AIDA and key the final error-free cover letter in an acceptable business letter format. Create a
letterhead for your cover letter.
Resume
Communication Situation:
Prepare your résumé. Customize the résumé to the employer/position you identified. Choose a résumé style that best
represents what you have to offer. Because this is a traditional print résumé, use techniques to enhance visual appeal.
Include a job objective and/or summary of qualifications.
Type an error-free resume using the same letterhead from your cover letter. Remember to avoid articles (a, an, the)
and first person. References should be provided on a separate page that includes your heading and page
number. Each page of your resume should have your header information (Name, address, telephone number, etc)
and should be copied and pasted to your second, third, etc. pages. Add the page number to the heading information
on pages 2, 3, etc.).
E-resume
Communication Situation:
Prepare an e-resume using the information from the print resume you designed for the assignment.
Type an error-free e-resume using your resume created in the assignment. All information must be included on the
e-resume. Remember to begin every entry on the left margin, avoid the following: underline, hyperlinks, borders,
italics, tabs, centering, bullets, word wrap, shading, boxes, columns, special characters, unusual font styles, and
other print mechanics
This assignment is your cover letter, resume, and e-resume draft copies and will be reviewed for proper content and
format as Assignment 11. Upon professor review, changes will be made and you will resubmit as Assignment 12.
Your final copy will be graded as Assignment 12.
