Decision Making

It is project managers’ job to dedicate time and effort in decision


making for managing a project. In decision making, some are possible
to make in short period but others need detail analyzing over the major
impact of quality, finance and schedule. A decision making without a
goal will be in vain so it is important to set an achievable primary goal
first to start a good decision making. Project manager requires to know
the objectives of the project and communicate and cooperate
participants so that they will be able to stick with the project objectives
to achieve the goal.
Decisions are to make in exact schedule in order to set the deadline.
Projects decisions must be made in manager’s organization to hit the
approval process. The task to the individual must be given by the
manager and setting the finish line must be prepared to make sure no
task is delayed or crosses the proper time.
Avoiding crisis decisions has to be aware by manager. It is important
for the manger to gather the possible information, potential outcomes
and practices the best judgment. A manager must be flexible enough
to make necessary changes when the project is in need. The key
benefits of decision making are informed decisions, the high
competency of recording past information to demonstrate the
effectiveness of decisions, ensuring the reliable and important
decisions, providing data to those who are in need, taking action over
decisions and balance them with experience. The important decision
making skills, such as; strategic planning, operational management are
used in project management.
According to psychologists, patterns in the way people choose
alternatives, measuring probabilities, classifying and managing
potentials will help decision makers to maintain their management
quality.
There are 3C principle which decision makers analyze when making
decisions. They are Consistency, Comprehensiveness and Continuity.
Consistency is vital to regulate the decision scrutiny process to enable
the consistent of decision making. Comprehensiveness is important in
decision making process to maintain the right trail of decision analysis.
Continuity is the continuous process of creating and filtering decisions
during a course of project.
For a decision maker or project manager, the whole decision making
process is not only to plan and manage but also to solve the decision
making problems. Decision making process is not structured exactly
instead, it is varying according to the changes of companies and
projects.
