Ethic is a study of standards of right and wrong concerning moral conduct, duty and
judgment as part of science and philosophy. Ethics comes in with individual’s voluntary
action. As a high level of ethical behavior is becoming more important, the professional
engineers and geoscientists apply the “code of Ethic” as a guidance to professional
conductivity so that they can use it in their daily decision making situations.
The code of Ethics plays important role in the area of honesty, equality, impartiality and
dedication to health protection, safety and public welfare. To be specific, plagiarism,
fabrication, falsification, non-publication of data, data gathering procedures, pool data
storage and retention, misleading authorship and sneaky publication practices can be
the example of issues caused by dishonesty.
The objective of the code of Ethic is to provide the professional Engineers and
Geoscientists with the general principles which may fulfill their responsibility to the
public, profession and their fellows. As showing a fairness, courtesy and good faith to
their related environment are the essential acts for Engineer and Geoscientists as those
tendency may lead to safeguard human life and environment.
By embodying the above rules and principles, Engineers and Geoscientists will be able to
not only keep but also promote the safety, health and welfare of the community both in
and out of the work place. Following the above rules will allow them notice the
responsibilities for professional duties through trainings or experiences. Moreover, it will
provide an opinion upon a respective matter and individual’s perspectives over
maintaining the loyalty between clients and that will lessen the rate of conflicts. In
addition, it will motivates the individual’s maintenance over competency and forester the
knowledge and practices to enrich their professional development. Lastly, they will be
able to extend the knowledge for both engineering and geoscience which shall help them
protect the profession from misrepresentations.
