Another type of grammar associates with transformational rules presented by Chomsky

can be seen in the way how declarative sentences transform into interrogative sentence. In this
case, the first thing one needs to do is to look for the noun phrase in the text and mark it. Then,
set the noun phrase at the beginning of the sentence. After that, move the auxiliary verb to the
second place of the sentence. Last, use a relevant interrogative words to replace the noun
phrase.

Eg; Cindy was talking with her best friend.

Who was Cindy talking with?

Taking a look at the above example declarative sentence ‘her best friend’ is marked as a noun
phrase before moving the auxiliary verb ‘was’ to the second place in the sentence. Until then,
we get the incomplete sentence ‘….. was Cindy talking with’. Finally, after replacing the
appropriate interrogative form of ‘her best friend’ with ‘who’, the comprehensive interrogative
sentence will form as follow. ‘Who was Cindy talking with?’. At this point, the punctuation
mark should not be missed.
