Ascending tracts of spinal cord are
1 Spinoreticular Tract
2 Spino_olivary Tract
3 Fasciculas Dorsolateralis Tract
4 Spinotectal Tract

1-Spinoreticular Tract
 Present in anterolateral white column.
 Originate fibers from
intermediolateral nucleus
 Crossed fibers ascend upward in
same side.
 Uncrossed fibers terminate in
reticular formation by three ways
 Few fibers terminate in midbrain.
 Some fibers terminate in nucleus
reticularis gigantocellularis.
 Some fibers terminate in nucleus
reticularis pontis caudalis.
 Functions:
 Component of acending reticular
activating system
 Concerned with consiousness and
awareness.
2-Spino olivary Tract
 Fibers origination is nonspecific
 Fibers terminate in olivary nucleus of
medulla and than project into cerebellum.
 Functions:
 Concerned with propioception

3-Fasciculas dorsolateralis
Tract
 Consituted by fibers of 1st order neuron
 Cells of post. Root ganglia
 Crossed fibers enter into spinal cord
 Ascend up and downward
 Synapse with cells of substantia gelatinosa
and join lateral spino thalamic tract

Functions:
 Carry impulses of pain and temperature
sensation.
4-Spinotectal Tract
 Originate fibers from chief sensory
nucleus and then upper lumbar segment
 Prominent in cervical segment
 Crossed fibers cross to lateral column
 Midbrain, pons and medulla and then to
superior colliculus of tectum of midbrain.

Functions:
 Concerned with spino visual reflex.
LESIONS:
If there is a damage of anyone of
the above tracts than there is loss
of
 Pain and temperature sensations
 Propioception
 Awareness and consciousness
 Spino visual reflex

The End.
