Reflection

The knowledge I need to teach history social science in an

elementary classroom is teaching concepts that investigate, concepts

that allow the student to research evidence, reading between the lines

and argumentative writing. Teachers must give the training to the

students to do so and allow them to apply what is learned. Teachers

have to give students different ways of learning and other ways of

implementing work from history to social science. Teachers have to

teach what happened and why, teachers have to allow students to learn

about what's happening now what happened before and why they are so

different.

The connections I make with history courses that I have taken is that

of course every teacher is different and teaches differently but you

can truly see who is passionate about history. I had a teacher in high

school and everything that he was teaching us he dressed up and always

made us think about it rather he made us read the do a quick write or

read the chapter and then we were put into group and we went over in

as a class then had to pick a selection and had the student do a

presentation on it. I think that was the most interesting history

class I ever took besides LBS 375 class.

An assignment that I did this semester that highlighted my

learning and understanding has to be the gold rush section. The gold

rush section is a highlight because I have been in California my whole

life and I felt I knew nothing about it. I didn't even know what the
gold rush was, I don't recall learning about it in grade school beside

games that we used to play but as far this is how California became a

state no.

I chose this artifact because it was the start of California,

something that I personally alway wanted to know but never looked it

up. As a learner I feel that I get the work done but still don't know

too much about it but in this case I do feel that I learned and I can

recall dates and facts about the gold rush. I think that this

selection did demonstrate my knowledge because I actually got it. I'm

not that much into history but because i wanted to know made me very

intrigued in the class.
