Ironically, the Filipinos initially welcomed martial law.
They were tired of the political wrangling and
political violence. Many wanted the end of traditional politics and elite dominance. The changes did not mean better living conditions or more equality in society; rather they meant new institutions and policies which were now inefficient and corrupt.
It attracted supporters against Martial Law due to slow and unfair judicial system; widespread militarization and the massive disregard and abuse of human rights.
