FERRER, CESO V Schools Division Superintendent (Clit MILAGROS M/PENAFLOR, Ph.D. SCHOOLS DIVISION OF BATAAN Learning Resources Management & Development Section (LRMDS) GUIDELINES in PREPARING A SELF-LEARNING KIT (SLK) What is a Self-Learning Kit? A Self Learning Kit or SLK is an innovative Supplementary Learning Resource (SLR) originally made, produced, modified or contextualized by a teacher to meet the standards of the Kto12 Curriculum in providing our fellow teachers and learners relevant and localized content. It is a simplified and modularized form of a learning material which consist systematic sequenced materials for learning. The teaching-learning module in a vast variety of subjects was proven effective as an instructional tool. This is an innovation in ‘the education of new generation of learners who are described as self-directed learners. What is the importance of Self-learning Kits? The following considerations bring forth the relevance and importance of Self Learning Kits (SLKs). Instructional package presented in modular forms is one great way of imparting knowledge to learners. 1, The need of instructional material in modularized form is immediate and intense since teachers and learners as well value time and effort. Learners need to finish a task or expand knowledge for a particular learning competency in the most convenient and easy way without sacrificing the quality of work. Students may continue learning even if they are at home. ¥ There is a need to change the attitude of learners inasmuch as innovations in the learning of learners are needed. There is a need to redirect them in a way that they may maximize their participation in their learning endeavor, which will make them even proud of their active involvement in their education without much help from their teachers. Deviating from the traditional way to accomplish a work using lesser effort and time will yield to better result. This could be construed that this constructive change in the system is another milestone in education. 3. Through the creation of modularized form of a learning material, student-learning will be made easier for the reason that all important topics and lessons they need are already put into one material making it possible for learners to conserve time, effort, mobility and financial resources. 4, Another important reason why teachers must embark on SLK making is the scarcity of books, materials or references in our schools. Contextualized SLKs prepared by teachers may give solution to learners’ difficulty in looking for materials needed in their study. The offshoot of modular instruction through SLKs. is mastery of the lessons and learners will also benefit by enriching their knowledge by creating avenues through easy access to information. " Including learners in planning how to meet the objectives, which are outlined in the curriculum guide, is one of the best experiences a teacher may have. | SCHOOLS DIVISION OF BATAAN’ ) Learning Resources Management & Development Section (LRMDS) Modifying and/or contextualizing the design to build their knowledge of the ‘subject and to fit learners’ needs should be the goal of every teacher to deviate the passive and dependent learning attitudes of learners as an effect of traditional academic teaching. 6. Furthermore, SLKs reduces dependency and passiveness in the education process. What is the Format and Contents and of a Self-Learning Kit needed for submission to LRMDS-Bataan?
