Roman Polanski's Wife Criticizes Quentin

Tarantino's ONCE UPON A TIME IN

HOLLYWOOD
2 Hours Ago by Jessica Fisher

Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film, Once Upon A Time

In Hollywood, has been described as his “love letter to
Hollywood,” chronicling the 1969 heyday of Hollywood, and
the chaos that was going on during that time surrounding the
Manson murders. One character who was involved in all of it
was then-Hollywood director Roman Polanski. He had just
been made famous by his 1968 film, Rosemary’s Baby,
when his pregnant wife, actress and model Sharon Tate,
was murdered by the Manson family cult. Polanski was since
ostracized from Hollywood after a conviction for statutory
rape, which he pleaded guilty to but then skipped out of the
country before serving his sentence.
Since being so embroiled in the story that Tarantino is
weaving, the character of Polanski does play a part, but
Polanski’s current wife, actress and model Emmanuelle
Seigner isn’t very happy about it. In a recent social media
report, (originally written in French, but translated by THR),
Seigner expressed her distaste for the use of her husband’s
story:

"How can you take advantage of someone's tragic

life while trampling on them? Something to think
about (I'm talking about the system that tramples
Roman). A little explanation because I understand
that people don't understand my point-of-view. I
am not criticizing the film. I am just saying that it
doesn’t bother them [in Hollywood] to make a film
about Roman and his tragic story, and make
money with it… while at the same time they have
made him a pariah. And all without consulting him
of course. Let's judge the film as a good one, but
the idea of this is bothersome.
When asked about Polanski at the Cannes Film Festival
earlier this month, all Tarantino had to say was:
"I’m a fan of Roman Polanski’s work, but
particularly Rosemary’s Baby. I like it a lot.”
So I really don’t think the portrayal of Polanski is personal or
anything. He’s a piece of history with a tragic story in
Hollywood. It sounds like the choices he made and the
fugitive he became don’t play any part in this film, so I don’t
know what her problem is. He made choices that people
don’t approve of, and people are cutting gross old men a lot
less slack these days, so I don’t think she is going to change
anyone’s minds on her old man. The people have spoken,
and no matter how great of a filmmaker he was, and how
tragic of a life he has lived, no one is feeling sorry for the guy
these days.
I’m super stoked to see this film when it comes out. Are you
excited? Once Upon A Time In Hollywood hits theaters on
July 26th, 2019.
