Repair an old crack in

pressure vessel
• What is Crack?
A crack is a discontinuity in a solid body
which is characterized by possessing an
initiation (or nucleation) point and by
growing from this point to a finite size with
time, either leading, or not, to the division of
the initial body in two or more pieces".
1.Cleaning with brush power tool ,visual

inspection and NDE to determine size and location

of crack.
2.Marking for Drilling 5mm far from crack
tips to avoid crack propagation.
3. Grind a “V” or “U” groove into the
cracking area to provide good weld
penetration.

4.Grinding cracking area "area of base metal
that including the crack" and apply NDE.

5.Welding area with E7018 strings with rod
diameter 2.5 mm according to procedure
then apply visual and NDE.
6.Flushing “Apply grinding to remove excess
welding reinforcement.”
7. apply final visual and NDE inspection for
area.
