Brain Power

Brain has 3 major parts

1.Cerebellum- responsible for voluntary movements such as picking of fork

Neurons- the basic units of NS, are the key for brain functions

3 Parts;

Nerve Cell Body, Axon, Dendrite

Synapse ( Spaces between Dendrites ), Neurotransmitter ( Chemical )

2. Cerebrum- 85 percent of brain weight

Has 4 Lobes

Parietal- make people understand what they see and feel

Frontal- personality and emotions

Occipital- vision functions

Temporal- hearing and word recognition

Brain Stem- connects the spinal cord to the brain, responsible for involuntary movements suh as
breathing, blood pressure, food digestion

Consensus among researchers

' Braun cells regenerate throughout life' , stated by Doug Postels , a pediatric neurosurgeon in New
Orleans

Brain cells regenerate fast until the age of 3. This time, synaptogenesis ( creation of pathways fr the
brain cells to communicate ) occurs.

Brain damage after 3 ten to have less recovery, unlike the age of 3 below.

In 1993, 60 people died in inhalant usage.

marijuana- hinders learning, poor jugement and reasoning

steriod- causes violent mood swings

ecstasy- destroys the enzyme serotonin (crucial for sleeping, violence, and mood swings)
