Personal Statement

Question: Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you
have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your
academic achievement?

There were a lot of challenges I faced along my journey in high school, but
one challenge I would never forget was trying to be someone I'm not and not
taking care of myself instead I was worrying about others. This challenge was very
hard to overcome because I wasn't myself and I was going through depression at
that time. My mom was getting worried about my health and she put me in therapy
and some took some counseling classes. I can say I wasn’t going to the sessions
because I didn’t like talking about my problems. I felt like people wouldn’t
understand unless they were in my shoes. It took some time for me to get
comfortable with the new people until one day I started to speak up and we went
from there. I had private sessions everyday to talk about my problems and it went
well. I knew it had to take some time and I wanted to better myself as a person, but
I wanted a better relationship with my mom. This challenge has affected my
academics, I wasn't doing any homework, skipping class and I wasn't going to
school. Looking back I wish I hadn't done all of those things because it has
affected my accomplishments going to a University. However, things happen for a
reason and I learned for them. I needed help and I got the help and I'm proud of
myself for the person I've become.
