_ DEPAUL UNIVERSITY cducation.depaul.eda May 13, 2020 To Whom It May Concern: Asa supervisor for DePaul University, | have had the privilege of observing Ms. Nicole Axe as a virtual student teacher at Ogden International School and itis a true pleasure for me to write this letter of recommendation. During every interaction I have had with Ms. Axe in this virtual environment, she has demonstrated immense professionalism and perseverance to ensure that both she and her students are learning. Ms. Axe prepares detailed lesson plans that include very clear, specific objectives and assessment ‘opportunities. An example of a distinguished lesson that Ms. Axe implemented during eLearning was in the area of math related to solving word problems and equations. In her instructional videos, Ms. Axe was incredibly prepared with all materials and problems pre-written, in addition to being very natural ‘and engaging in her delivery without using any script. Ms. Axe clearly stated the objective for each learning segment and connected it to prior learning, along with explaining the connections between ‘warm-up activities and the lessons. She was encouraging and positive to students in the videos and offered useful tips for learning strategies (remembering greater than/less than symbols). Students were provided with opportunities for self-assessment as they communicated if concepts were easy, manageable or difficult. Ms. Axe used this self-reported information, along with assessment results, to inform instruction, noticing which students needed additional help and then working to form small virtual learning groups. Ms. Axe exhibited perseverance and flexibility as she navigated difficult situations to create comprehensive and meaningful virtual instruction for students. Most importantly, she is a reflective practitioner who is able to adapt her methods based on these reflections. She seeks out feedback, responds positively to it, and then uses it to inform her practice. | would highly recommend Ms. Axe for a teaching position.
