Our dog , Rex , used to sit outside our front gate and bark . Every time he wanted to

Egypt in an Arab country with an area about 1 million Km2 . Most of the land is
desert , as , except on the Mediterranean coast , the amount of rain each year is very
small on 3% of Egypt – the land watered by the River Nile – can be used for farming . Over

In the past , Egypt grew its own food . But now , it has to import more than half the wheat

half of all Egyptians are under 20 years of age , the population will continue to grow .
Recently , Al-Akhbar , the Cairo newspaper , wrote a report on what life would be like if

Cairo ( 5 million more than at the moment) , many people would have to live in tents in
the city's parks . Travelling from one side of the city to another would take 10 hours , so
more people would use bicycles . Even with classes of 100 pupils , school would have to
say open day and night to teach every body .
