“My Perfect You”

A Movie Review

My Perfect You is a 2018 Philippine romantic comedy drama film directed by Cathy

Garcia-Molina, produced and distributed by Star Cinema. It is a high spirited, gloomy romance
where illusion undermines reality. The film brings together, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach
and Gerald Anderson, in a haunting tale of loss and second chances, and all the beautiful and
painful realities that come with them.
My Perfect You revolves around the character of Burn Toledo (Gerald Anderson), a man
who is down in the dumps, and Abi (Pia Wurtzbach), the girl who helped him see the light again.
Annoyed at first, Burn eventually falls for Abi’s personality, that when she claims that she can be
anything he want her to be, he believes her. But there’s a big catch to that statement, and it is
where the narrative’s biggest deceit is wrapped around. However, that big plot twist is
predictable–it wouldn’t be hard to guess something like it would eventually arrive. It is the
intensity and emotional weight of that moment that makes it impossible to be prepared for. And
once it hits, those who witness it would surely fall into an awestruck silence.
The charm of both actors also added to the beauty of them together on the screen. Moreover,
the exquisite photography makes another salient character that turns the movie into more than
just an exhibit of loss and heartbreak. Glossy and lush colors invite the audience to immerse into
the fantasy world it seemingly creates, and while we all know it’s a cover up to a twist that will
surely break hearts apart, we still want to plunge into it.
Personally, I like this movie and give it a rate of 8.8 because though it is implausible at times,
it renders a sense of reality that will move audience to tears. Direk Cathy never failed to show us
how second chances and the choices we make to deserve them work in this movie. She brought
us to the realization that we should give ourselves a second chance at love and life through the
character of Burn.
