Essential Question How do morticians change views on death?
Project/Showcase Description with a Service-Learning Component
I would try to help people become more comfortable with death. I would help people feel welcomed and have a sense of relief knowing their loved one is taken care of. If people could not afford a funeral for a loved one then I would take some money off of the total price to help them out.
My Potential Hands-on will be:
Section the room off, do different celebrations of life for other cultures (how different cultures celebrate life or have funerals) 1. What personal interest do you have on this topic? Why have you chosen this topic for your senior project/showcase? - I find mortuary science interesting. I don’t like working with the general public 2. What research questions will you seek to answer? What kinds of sources might you look for? - How much formal education is needed in your field? What sort of special training or advanced degree is required? What kinds of experience do employers want? What kinds of extra-curricular activities and/or volunteer experiences would be beneficial? - I will look for articles or papers that are related to the topic. I will look at what morticians themselves say about their job 3. Who is a person (specifically, or in general) with experience or expertise in this field you might interview? What understanding do you hope to gain from this person? - A mortician from a funeral home and try to find someone through connections. I hope to gain knowledge on what the typical workday looks like, what are some of the challenges of being a mortician and how it affects their life. 4. What situations, events, or places could you observe or experience to gain insight into your topic? - Funeral homes, where a mortician does their work. 5. What challenges might you encounter with your research or project? What assistance or tools will you need to overcome them? - Morticians work with dead bodies and they are not as common when it comes to writing research articles or articles in general about my essential question. - It might be hard to do the “hands-on” part of the project the way I imagine it. 6. What other questions or concerns do you have about your senior capstone project at this time? - No questions at the moment
