I. Definition

“These” and “These” are used as demonstrative adjectives and


sometimes simply as demonstrative pronouns. When they are used together
with noun and modify noun , they are demonstrative adjectives. When
they are not used with noun but stand in place of noun, they are demonstrative
pronouns.

II. Usage

+ We use “these” to refer to plural nouns (people or things) which are nearby.
Example: these are my sister’s shoes. (Demonstrative pronoun)
These people are in my group. (Demonstrativeadhective)
These cakes are diliciouse. (Demonstrative adjective)
These are my books. (Demonstrative pronoun)
These flowers are fore my girlfriend. (Demonstrative pro.)

+ We use “those” to refer to plural nouns (people or things) which are far away
from us.
Example: I Like those cars. (Demonstrative adjective)
Why are you looking at those things? (Demonstrative adjective)
Those are my pets. (Demonstrative pronoun)
Those are things that belong to my brother. (Demonstrative pronoun)
Those people are from Japan. (Demonstrative adjective)

 Notice that when “ these” and “those” are followed closely by noun, they are
demonstrative Adjectives, and when they stand in place of noun, they are
demonstrative pronouns.
