BSBA FINMAN 2-B ETHICS (MWF 7:30-8:30) 02-12-20

I am a Christian and so far, I have two Muslim friends now. I respect their practices and beliefs although
they’re different from mine. I don’t hate nor condemn their practice of polygamy but I’m not that fond of it. In
fact sometimes, I still wonder how and why it became necessary for them to follow such belief that as long as
the man can provide for more than one woman/wife, he can add another one if he’d like.
Another belief that’s really contradicting is the Filipino belief that women should avoid eating jackfruit
or langka while they’re on their period because they might die. This is actually only a myth. In fact, jackfruit
helps fight anemia.
There’s also this practice in my family where we’d need to turn our plates clockwise thrice when
someone’s leaving while we’re in the middle of eating our meal. They say it’s for the sake of the one who had
just left so that he won’t get into any undesirable circumstances outside.
There’s also this common Filipino belief that when a glass or picture frame breaks, there’s something
bad that’s bound to happen in the future.
It’s not like I strongly hate this beliefs but if I get a say, I think it would be much better to focus our
energy and our ability to believe in something in things that are more realistic than these Filipino beliefs.
There’s already so much worries and fears out there that we encounter daily in our lives. Adding such
superstitious beliefs will only make things harder for us when it could actually be made better.
