ENGL 101 – SECTION 5

HOMEWORK

My Background
My name is , and I’m 18. I was born in Kampot province, but currently, I’m living in

Phnom Penh with my grandparents. I’m from a small family of five which consists of my parents, my younger

brother, my older brother, and me. My father is a farmer, and my mother is a seller. They both live in the

province. Hence, my brothers and I are students, and we are living in the city. As a small child, I went to

school since I was three to learn English. Three years later, I went to Baktouk primary school and spent six

years there. At that time, I wasn’t such a good student. After finishing primary school, I continued studying at

Baktouk High School, and my life changed since that time. During high school, my favourite subjects were

Math and sciences, but I wasn’t into social studies much. When I was in the 9 th grade, I graduated from my

English school, so I started to focus more on my high school courses in order to do well on my national exam.

After another three years, I graduated from high school with a very good grade, and I was really proud of my

achievement because it was like the first success in my life.

After high school, I was planning for some internship or part-time job, but my parents didn’t allow me

to do so because they wanted me to focus more on my university life so that I can have a better job and future
after my graduation. They encouraged me to choose what I like to study for my bachelor’s degree, so I

followed my passion. Since I was a child, I am really into drawing, and love to express my imagination and

idea through my drawing or games. By this reason, I decided to study Architecture at Zaman University. My

parents wondered why I chose ZamanU instead of public universities. My answer for their question was that

I wanted to follow my dream. Everybody knows about ZamanU and its quality of education. It is one of the

high-ranking universities in the country, and I’m proud to be a part of it. In addition, I want to study in an

English speaking environment, so I can improve my English and feel confident when talking with other

people in public. Last but not least, ZamanU provides many opportunities for students such as exchange

programs, scholarships, and many other services and helps student to fulfill their dream after their graduation.

As a student, I hope I can continue to study for a master or doctoral degree abroad and come back with

knowledge and experiences to become one of the greatest architects in the region with innovative idea and

imagination. That’s such a big dream, but I believe that whenever I try for it, I can achieve it.
