Block 5
My three takeaways from John Green’s course are that I should always fact check my resources,
I should never plagiarize, and I should check for bias when reading articles. Fact checking my
resources is very important because I don’t want to pass on false information. Also, if I am
simply researching something for myself, it is important that I know that the information is
credible. I learned that I should never plagiarize because it is not fair to the other person who
actually wrote the information. I would be stealing their ideas and posing them as my own.
Lastly, I learned that there is a lot of bias in articles and I have to spot it to determine the
credibility of the article.
Throughout this time of learning from home, I have realized how important classroom school is.
When I am home, I find myself drifting off and getting distracted easily. This isn’t the school’s
problem, it is clearly my own, but many other kids also suffer from this. I like the fact that we
can go at our own pace at home, but I also feel like I didn’t learn nearly as much as I would have
in school. A good balance would be going to school a few days a week and doing homework for
what we learned in class the other days. Online classes don’t compare to in person classes and I
feel like tat is showing in my education. Working from home is a very important skill to have
because any college courses are online. I feel like I definitely mastered working from home but
that doesn’t change the fact that I prefer in class instruction.
