Project Summary

My consulting firm has been awarded a project for construction of two storey bungalow on
a private land of an area of 24 m X 22 m at Taman Rama-Rama, Selangor. The floor height
will be 3m for every floor as requested by the client. The client also requested for ceiling
depth of 600 mm from the slab above and the use of lightweight brick of size 210 mm x 100
mm x 65 mm with 25 mm thick plastered at both sides for internal and external walls. As a
civil engineer in the company I work for, I have done a structural layout plan based on the
proposed architecture drawings below.

Assumptions
The dimension of the bungalow is 16m x 15m. Therefore, the extra space will be utilised as
the car porch and the green spaces around the house. The chosen beam and column sizes
are 150mm x 600mm and 150mm x 150mm respectively to ensure the client will not see the
column and beams when construction is done. It will also be aesthetically pleasing to the
client. Final thickness of the wall is 100mm plus 25mm of plaster on both sides. Therefore,
150mm is chosen. The ceiling depth is 600mm. Therefore, the height of the beam will also
be 600mm. The technical drawing can be referred in Appendix 1 with all the dimensions
planned. The column placement will also be in the drawing.
Column Placement

= Columns

Above is an overlapped image where the columns do not interfere with any of the original
client’s plans of position of windows and doors. Therefore, there is no need for the client to
readjust any of the proposed design. Some of the balconies will sit on the wall of the ground
floor which will be used to support them.

Description of drawing
The drawing in Appendix 1 is done using AutoCAD Software which will be the precise
measurements of the real bungalow when it is done. The blue lines represent the beams of
the whole bungalow while the red boxes will be the column placement for each floor. The
dimensions are stated in green.
