What does this article examine? Introduction (background)

There some problems found by the researcher;
1. Mathematics course is one of the important courses
for engineer students.
2. Academic achievement is the main factor
considered for recruiting workers.
3. In the Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment,
the students have low performance in mathematics
and this course is the main course in FKAB.
4. Decrease in student performance to engineering
mathematics subjects is the main issue in FKAB, So
basic mathematics is very important for
undergraduate students
Aim / Purpose
The purpose of this research is to scrutinize the
effectiveness of pre-test mathematics in predicting the
performance of FKAB diploma student’s in in following
semester.

Methodology (How does the Method

author study the issue) the process flow of research is
1. make pre-test question
2. hand out the pre-test question to diploma and non-
diploma
3. accumulate the pre-test question result
4. statistical data analysis use software SPSS version 16.0
5. commentating of the resutt
Participant
The research sample in this study was 23 participant of had
CGPA more than 3.5 from their several diploma programme.
Instrument
Calculus and algebra are necessary things in this pre test,
because there are have many question.
Finding/Results the resulting average of the pre-test is slightingly than vector
calculus and linear algebra because student prone to keep up
the same pattern in their implementation in vector calculus and
linear algebra.
Conclusion efforts in improving basic mathematics learning especially in
engineering students used pre-test methods to measure how
far they knew basic mathematics. because there is a weak
correlation between pre-test and vector calculus and linear
algebra results it is necessary to give a deeper mathematics
course. On the other hand, a higher correlation between
Vector Calculus and Linear Algebra shows that the analysis of
both mathematics courses may not be treated separately.
