STATE OF THE DEAD

Do we go to Heaven immediately after we die?
John 5:28,29 "Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice
and come out—those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be
condemned.”

The dead lay “asleep” in the grave until they are resurrected – some time in the future.
1st Resurrection – the “good”; 2nd Resurrection – the “evil”

Is there any conscious existence when we are dead?

“For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing.” (Eccl 9:5 NIV)
“For in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.” (Eccl
9:10 NIV)

THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS – EVERYONE WILL SEE IT

For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
(Mat 24:27 NIV)
Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples
of the earth will mourn because of him.. (Rev 1:7 NIV)

THE RIGHTEOUS AT THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS

At the Second Coming followers of Christ go to Heaven for 1,000 years.
1Th 4:16,17 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the
archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive
and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be
with the Lord forever.
John 14:2,3 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to
prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that
you also may be where I am.
Rev 20:4,5 They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years…. This is the first resurrection.

After the 1,000 years the New Jerusalem along with Christ’s followers move from Heaven to Earth.
Rev 21:2,3 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride
beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God
is with men, and he will live with them.

THE WICKED AT THE SECOND COMING

The Earth is devastated at the Second Coming.
Rev 6:12-17 There was a great earthquake…. and the stars in the sky fell to earth….The sky receded like a scroll,
rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. Then the kings of the earth, the princes,
the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the
mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on
the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?"

The wicked are killed at the Second Coming.

Rev 19:19-21 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war
against the rider on the horse and his army. But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet …. The
two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. The rest of them were killed with the sword
that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.

The wicked remain dead throughout the 1,000 years, then are raised back to life at the end of it.
Rev 20:5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.

THE FATE OF SATAN & HIS ANGELS

Satan & his angels are bound on a desolate Earth for the 1,000 years with no one to tempt.
Rev 20:1-3 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a
great chain. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand
years. He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations
anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

At the end of the Millennium Satan and the raised wicked try and attack God’s people in the New Jerusalem.
Rev 20:7-9 When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive
the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—to gather them for battle. In number they are like
the sand on the seashore. They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's
people, the city he loves….

THE FINAL FATE OF SATAN & ALL THE WICKED

Satan and his followers are destroyed forever in the Lake of Fire at the end of the Millennium.
Rev 20:9,10 ….But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. And the devil, who deceived them, was
thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown.
Rev 20:12,13 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another
book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded
in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them,
and each person was judged according to what he had done.
Rev 20:14,15 ….The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life,
he was thrown into the lake of fire.

THE RECREATED NEW EARTH

Rev 21:3-5 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will
live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every
tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has
passed away." He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!"
Isa 65:17,19,21,22,25 "Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be
remembered, nor will they come to mind….the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more. They
will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. No longer will they build houses
and others live in them….The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but
dust will be the serpent's food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain," says the LORD.

Because of our sin we deserve death but Jesus has promised us eternal life, and it is free – a gift.
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
