Q1A)

= The water will expand in both flasks due to the increase in temperature, since the flask on the right
has a larger capacity, it will take higher temperature for the water to expand as compared to the
flask on the left which is smaller in size and will need a lower amount of temperature for the water
to expand

Q1B)

= The sensitivity of the flask on the left will therefore increase since a small rise in temperature will
cause a large rise in water levels

Q2A)

= 20.5 – 4.5 = 16cm

B)

= 50= 10-4.5/16 X 100

50 x16/100 = 10-4.5

Q= 8+5.5

=13.5

c)

6.9-4.5/20.5-4.5 x100

2.4/16 x 100 degree celcius

= 15 degree celcius

D) 2.1-4.5/16 x 100

-2.4/16 x 100

= -15

Q3)

= The resistor will not be very useful as a thermometer since the range between the steam points
and the icepoint is miniscale and it will be untellable since it has a small range of temperatures

Q4)

= Medical thermometer is used to measure the body temperature. They are accurate, having a
narrow bore where the level of accuracy rises very fast. This can be used to check if any person has
fever. Digital thermometers measure the temperature by means of an electric current. The
information they capture is sent to a chip which displays it numerically on the screen. They are easy
to use and cheap. This can help to check people’s body temperature for e.g when they enter a new
coutry
