What: The Baird Television is the first working mechanical television invented by John Logie Baird.

Baird’s invention, a pictorial-transmission machine he called a “televisor,” used mechanical rotating


disks to scan moving images into electronic impulses.

When: First Public Demonstration on January 26, 1926.

Where: Invented at Soho, London.

Purpose: Mechanical television helped push television forward and probably hastened the development
of electronic TV. Television is one of the most important inventions in the recent century. It is a powerful
tool to educate viewers across the world.
