Stay safe when working in the heat

According to the studies made by ​the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
(NIOSH), one of the most serious heat-related disorders is heatstroke and it occurs when the
body temperature reaches dangerous levels and body no longer sweats. As summers approach,
working in the hot weather, especially in the noon becomes difficult and tedious. The body
temperature can rise to soar high within a small period and can cause permanent disorders or the
worst death. Heat rash, exhaustion and heat cramps are the common heat-related disorders that
are widely experienced.

Signs and Symptoms

1) Sun burns: Redness and agony. In extreme cases, skin, rankles, fever and cerebral pains.

2) Heat cramps: Painful fits for the most part in the muscles of legs and guts with substantial
perspiring.

3)Heat exhaustion: Heavy perspiring; shortcoming; chilly, pale, moist skin; thready heartbeat;
blacking out and retching yet may have typical temperature.

4) Sunstroke: High internal heat level (106° F or higher), hot dry skin, fast and solid heartbeat,
conceivable obviousness.

Preliminary precautions for staying safe when working in the heat are as follows:

1. Water is a medicine: Yes, staying hydrated keeps plenty of disorders away from your body.
Water is a savior. At the same time, dehydrating liquids like alcohol, coffee, and soft drinks.

2. Protective Clothing: Loose-fitting, Light-coloured, and light-weight clothes help protect


against heat.

3. Avoid getting sunburn: avoid direct exposure to the sun with a hat and applying sunscreen
help fight sunburn
4. Be alert and schedule a paced work: One should be very vigilant about self and others around,
making sure that you work in the utmost safety. Work is sure to slow down. But pace yourself,
drink a lot of water and take breaks in a shaded area.

5. Eat smaller meals: Don’t make yourself exhausted. Eat fruits high in fiber and drink natural
juices.

6. Wear sunglasses: Wearing quality sunglasses helps to protect eyes from the sun.
